The remarkable spectacle of a bat- tleship without a man on board being maneuvered by radio by officers sta- tioned on another ship several miles distant will be furnished off the Vir- ginia capes June 28, when the U. S. 8. Iowa is to be the target of bombs dropped from airplanes. Some of the details of the mechan- ism by which the Towa will be oper- ated by officers on the U. S. S. Ohio bave been made public by the Nav: Department. The apparatus consists of a standard radio transmitter aboard the control ship and a receiving aerial on the Iowa, with special radio re- ceivers, amplifiers and relays for con- verting the radio signals from the Ohfo into a form that will control the Towa's steering gear, engine throt- tle and fuel ofl vaives. The officer in charge of the Iowa. stationed on the bridge of the Ohlo, will have absolu charge of the controlled ship, which will have no one on board. Dr. James L. Suddarth, eighty-one years old, who was an officer under | Stonewall Jackson. during the civil war, died here Wednesday.
