= 30 OPENING-OF STREET URGED BY CITIZENS Rhode Island Association Re- iterates Stangd on Evarts Street in Motion. The Rhode Island Avenue Citizens' As- | ~ Sociation reiterated its stand in favor of the opening of Evarts street from Rhode Island avenue near the intersection of Tith street to 20th street northeast, by p-ssing a motion to this effect at a meting in ‘the Sherwood Presbyterian Chu-ch last night. Prosident W. S. Torbert left the chair in charre of Vice President Dr. Charles, W. Cu hbertson. to present the matter to the :ssociation. He declared th reply to the previous action of the ciation the District commissionel ons. One of them was that it would bisect the grounds of the National Lutheran Home. The other was that 't would pass through the center of |he grounds of Queen's Chapel, gisturbing reveral o:d graves. Replylaz to the first objection Mr. Torbert fafd that he was informed that the wmuthorities at the home favored outlet to Rhode Island avenue by Evarts street. Regarding the latter, he declared that a casual | survey would show that the little cemetery was not directly in line with the Druuon’d street.. ation passed the motion following several short talks from members. The greatest| advantage of the opening of the. street, it was said, would be to afford | 8 direct outlet from that section south of Rhode Island avenue to the diag: onally running avenue, instead o making a detour from 20th street.
