According to Eugene E. Thompson ! of Crane, Parris & Co., the sale of the $1,200,000 Washington Gas it 7 Der cent notes has been veryl“l‘l’lhcceu%- ful, practically $1,000,000 of the notes having been placed. There has been very littie sale for the notes outside of Washington, practically the entir amount of the flotation being takesh in the city by banks and investors. Mr. Thompson cites as unusuaj the large demand for bonds of $100 de- nomination, provision having been made for just such an inquiry, which ‘was sufficient to absorb thousands ef dollars’ worth of notes in the ag- gregate. From statistics furnished with the sale literature it is learned that last year's gross earnings, partly estimat- ed. were 3$5147.588; gross incomey $600,324, from which $338.162 inter- est charges are deducted, leaving $260,155 for the net corporate in- come. Gross revenues of the corpora- tion have been steadily increasing, but because of the great cost of everything entering into the manu- facture of gas the net has been de- creasing, save in 1919, when the net increased to $320.663, as compared with $251.190 in 1918. , Kansas City Reserve Bank. The federal reserve bank of Kan- sas City made net profits during th year 1920 of $5,540,681, or 130 pel cent on its average paid-in capital stock. Of the net profits, $2,240,228 were paid to the government as & franchise tax, $257.672 paid to mem- ber banks as dividends, and $2.793.- 368 added to surplus. The surplus of this bank is now $9.158,814. The progressive scale of interest, first introduced by this bank. was put into effect April 19, 1920. The report 8ays the average rate of discount was 6.76 per cent, compared with a flat 7 per cent rate in Chicago, New York and Minneapolis. Total | - i al loans, $1,677,. 4 Personal Mention. .
