One of the best amateur games played here this season was put up by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and West End teams at National Park yesterday. The Bureaus won out in the eleventh inning, the score having been a tle from the sev- enth, when each side had five runs. The winning run was made by Moreland, who pushed out a neat single, stole second and was sacrificed the remainder of the dis- tance. Both teams put up a splendid game, the fielding of both being up to profession- al style. An idea of the sharpness of the West End's play may be gained from the second inning, when, with three men on bases, and no one out, the next three men were retired in short order. The game was full of just such plays, and the excitement throughout, especially in the last three or four innings, was intense. Sullivan started in to pitch for the West Ends, and it was his work that helped re- tire the three men in the second inning. He was relieved by Nugent, who allowed but five scattered hits to be made off his delivery. Winkleman was rather easy for the West Enders, and gave way to Nichols in the seventh, the latter being very effec- tive. For the Bureaus McCauley led at the bat with three hits, while Moran and Loveless led with the stick for the West End: Moran hit out a homer and a double. whi McCauley got a triple and two singles. ‘The score: u ) WEST ENDS. -H.0.A.E. | R.H.O.A.B. 12-1 0 Souther, rf.¢ 0 10 0 015 0 0 Moran, #s...2 2.37 0 317 u1o0 1000 old amp 2 @ 4 420 Flaherty, If. 0 2 0 0 611 Kleinsch't.ef @ 1 3 0 322 Nichols, rf..1 1 1 0 100 Moreland, ¢. 1 211 1 100 ‘Totals. 6 13 33 13, Bus Bureaus. 0 01-6 West Ends 1 00 OS Earned runs—Bureaus, 2; West Ends, 1. . Time—2.50. C. A. C. and Interstate Commerce. The feature of the game which took place yesterday afternoon on Columbia Field be- tween the Columbia Athletic Club team and the team of the Interstate Commerce Commission was a lightning triple play, participated in by Wolf, Gladden and New- ton of the Interstates. Three Columbia men were on bases, when Hendley hit to Wolf. Wolf threw to Gladden, forcing out Bolway at the plate; Gladden fired the sphere with Newton at first, retiring Hend- Jey, and then the ball was quickly returned to Gladden just in time to catch Stock- slager, who had tried to seore. The game was won by the C. A. C. team through miserable fielding on the part of the In- terstates. Columbia repeatedly made long hits that should have been singles, and, although the Interstate boys made a double besides the triple play, and were quick in the ‘infield, their fielding lost them the game. Bolway led at the bat for the Cc. A. C., while Houlahan and Gladden se- cured the stick honors for the Interstates. The score: H -H.0..
