It is to be hoped that he will again visit Washington and give one or more recitals where he can have full scope to display his versatile powers. With many kisses and many tears did Puppi and Herto piead that they should not be left to spend their Christmas in loneliness, with their mother far across the ocean. The ambition of the artist proved to be not so strong as the love of the mother, and so Carreno prom- ised he- litle ones, then and there, that she would stay with them to lig! their Christmas tree. And that is why Carreno’s American tour does not begin until January % She will be in Washington later in the season. The second monthly “musicale” of the complimentary course, which will be given during the season by the pupils of Prof. H. E. It will be welcome news to many to hear that Moritz Rosenthal, the pianist, who has been dangeronsly fll in Chicago, is now rapidly recovering, and a letter from his manager, Mr. Henry Wo'fsohn, states that “Rosenthal will positively appear in the third Metropolitan concert in March.” Perhaps one of the most remarkable things in connection with Moritz Rosenthel ts the versatility of his attainments. Rosenthal is an example of the endurance and development of the infant prodigy, that much advertise! freak of which the public has come to entertain a just sus- picion. It is seldom enough that the in- fant prodigy amounts to anything in after life, and Kosenthai seems to be the excep- tion that proves the rule. At four he gave unmistakable signs of ability; at 10 he played in pubijic Chopin's rondo in C for two pianos with his master Mékull; at 14 he gave a successful concert in Vienna, and he subsequently weit to Bucharest, here he was appointed pianist to the Roumanian court. In 1875, while. his parents were living in Vienna, he studled under Joseffy. It is interesting to note in this connection the sudden leap that both these artists have made in popular favor in the last year. ‘The next concert of the Metropolitan series is in January, and Mme. I dllian Nor- dica is announced. The management, in response to many requests, has placed sea- son tickets on sale for the remaining four concerts at the box office of the Columbia.
