Rites’ Armory as the place of weeting. ‘The subject of my lecture will be “*The Philosor hy of Speech as rated by the English and the Prench Voies,” and Lwill endeavor to demonstrate that as man 1s bora tospeak—not any one particular lan- guage. but any lancuage—therefore what French apech really ia and how fo learn to apeak in French is very largely a question of principles, of ‘tematic drill, of method and of training, and does not depend solely on innate tude for janguaxes or on the youth or age of the learner. In the Intter case, one language having Already been mastered, the digt-uity to be overcome is principally @ mechanical one.
