It has been placed in Private Secretary Halfurd’s ofiice. - LITTLE MARTENA HARRISON, Mas Genuine Scarlet Fever, but is Bet- . ter Today. Little Martena Harrison, the President's five- year-old granddaughter, reported to be a trifle easier today. Her ailment, which was at first supposed to be scarlatina, has developed into a genuine case of scarlet fever. Itis of a mild type, however, and will undoubt- edly yield to treatment. The two McKee children who were playing with the little pa- tient when she was taken ill have been watche: carefully, nursed ever since and are reporied today as being beyond danger of contagion. Dr. Gardner, the family physician, was met by a Srar reporter on the steps of the White House this afternoon. In response to an inquiry he said his patient was getting along’nicely and would, be thought, be all right again in a short time. Her fever was less today than on Sat- urday or yesterday and the disease seemed to be ‘losing its hold. The Me- Kee children, he said, were well and he felt confident they would escape the disease notwithstanding its insidious and contagious character, and their exposure to it before ite Presence ‘in the house was known, The White House was closed to the public today and will probably remain so until it is again free from disease.
