‘THE BULLET FOUND IN HIS BRAIN. A Man Who Lived Twenty Years Under Ex- treordinary Circumstances. Is is by no means an unusual thing to hear of ® man having something on his mind, but when that something is a leaden bullet firmly imbedded in his brain and remaining there for = number of years the case becomes rather ex- traordinary. Yet there died at St. Elizabeth's Hospital last Saturday a man who for twenty Years had lived and thrived with » bullet inside of his skull The case is regarded among the physicians as a most remarkable one and the whole story of the affair is decidedly inter- one of the battles with the Modoe In- in 1872 one of the soldiers was that entered the arch of the Hae He fr g i Soldiers’ Home in this to the story as that one of the Corbin, had served with the wounded man was familiar with the with 54 cars vel epilep' to 0] care ‘was removed #0 St. imen of man 2 bl e il ? r Feet FE , i Hl ble the seat of his Sin anda nanber of promt Dr. Corbin and « number o} yeiciane. Thebody was reduced to ashes at the crematory in Lou- fires at the crematory were started Friday even- ing. Within twenty-four hours after the fires had been started the retort was ready for the reception of the body. At five minutes past 6 o'clock Saturday after- noon the remains of Judge Drake reached Bal- timore and ten minutes later were in the ceme- tery. They were ina handsome burial casket. ‘The body was accompanied by two young men, relatives of the dead. From the casket in which it was brougnt from Washington the body was transferred to the metal casket of the retort and placed in position. In one hour and a half ‘the body had been reduced to ashes. The ashes remained in the retort all Saturaay night. Yes terday morning they were taken out and placed in the original casket and shipped direct to St Louis, in obedience to another clause in Judge Drake's will. The two young men went to St Lous with them. ‘here were no religious services at the ecrematory, as they bad been held in Washington. A SUNDAY RUNAWAY. ‘The young son of Mr. A. Ponet, who carries on business near the local depot, was riding one of Mr. Patterson's horses down King street Yesterday after sunset when some mischievous lads threw pebbies at him. The pebbles struck his horse and the animal becoming frightened dashed down King street amid the crowds and threw the lad, who, however, escaped with a few scratches. THE APPOMATTOX PLAZA. The confederate monument at the intersec- tion of Washington and Prince streets stands in the midst of a cobble paved intersection 100 Dy 66 feet. There is a general desire that the environment of the monument shall be im- proved, and a vitritied brick orza solid asphalt Pavement has been proposed for the intersec- tion, but the city council has not seen its way clear to make the improvement. It is now said het the work will be done by private sab- scriptions ‘THE APRIL COUNTY covRr. The county court of Alexandria county.
