The cold weather and snow yesterday and last night bad the effect of keeping the vio- lators of the law mdoors, where they could re- main by the fire, and the result was that the police throughout the city had but little todo except regulate the children who were coasting on the hills with their Christmas sleds. It was their first opportunity this season and hun- dreds of children took advantage of it In Georgetown Policeman Bloom objected to the oceupancy of the sidewalk by the children and their sleds and made three arrests. This morn- ing the threo arrested were called before Judge Kimball for obstructing the sidewalk. The first called was @ small colored boy named Willie Lancaster, who was hardly large enough to draw a good-sized sled up a Georgetown hill. His plea to the charge was guilty, and the po- liceman asked for his release on his personal recognizance, as he only wanted to warn him not to repeat the offense. In discharging the boy the judge warned him not to repeat the offense and told him what would bappen if he did. Isaac Willams, colored. and Harry Burrows, white, were called for a violation of the same law and they were charged with drawing a vehicle other than a baby carriage on the side- walk. These are similar cases,” eid the officer, “and Lwish your honor would take the same action ae was taken in the other case.” “But,” said the judge, “these young men are old enough to know better and their lesson must be more forcible.” They paid $2 each.
