By evening his box wus empty and the applicants were still coming. Descriptions of these coins have already been printed in Taz Sran, but it may be well at thie time to say that the main feature of the new design is a female head on the obverse, facing to the right of the holder. A wreath ‘crosses the head, which is covered by a liberty cap. ‘The features are classical. The date, 1892, is inthe regular place, below the head, while around the sides of the rim are the thirteen stars of history. The phrase, “In God We Trust,” is above the head. The reverse is completely filled witha epread eagle, bearing the customary olive branch and bunch of arrows in its talons, and a ribbon in its beak containing the “E Pluribus Unum” of standard currency. Around the rim above are the words “United States of America,” and below the eagle is the denomina- tion of the coin’s value. Around the eagle's head the thirteen stars are clustered ina #ym- metrical arrangement. ‘The obverse is the same in each of the three coinsexcept that in the dime the words “In God we trust” arc omitted. The reverso of the dime is the same as in the old dime, @ wrea-h of ouk and laurel leaves and sprays of corn and wheat, inside of which are tlie words “One Dime,” in plain letters, These new coins are being made out of the ilver contained i the uncurrent coins stored the ‘treasury. ‘here was $23,000,000 Courmnrs, Onto, Jan. 4.—Both branches of the general ussembly were called to order at 10 o'clock this morning and the organization out- lined in the republican caucus of Bat- urday effected without incident. If so, Judge Crisp will probably designate Mr. McMillin. If anelection by the House is thought to be necessary it will, in all probability, result in exposition as follows: “The Columbian exposition or world’s fair to be held in Chicago next year appeals to the patriotism and to the business interests of the people of New York. Though we still regret the loss of this city to the world’s fair we have a substantial interest in ite success in the city selected to be its theater. The metropolis of the continentand the empire city of the Union should t@ fitly reproseuted there. The conservative organs, asa rule, have placed the responsibility upon the shoulders of the leaders of the “physical force” parts, and this has had the effect of drawing from Mr. Michael Davitt a letter which he sent to the Thmes for publica- tion. In this jetter Mr. Davitt protests that it is cowardly for the Times to insinuate that the explonion might be traced to his friend Ford. Mr. Davitt says it is more probable, as the iggott is dead, that that paper has another agent to preach the gospel of dyma- mite as Piggott did the gospel of forgery. Mr. Davitt also suggested that the explosion was due to one of the government menials, whe rules, since his vote ie necessary to avoid a tic, and it is not desirable, anyhow, to adopt rules without conference with him.’ If it could be £0 arranged ax to admit of the introduction and distribution of bills, legislation would not be delayed by the absence of rules and the illness of the Speaker. Asitis the authority of committees has not been defined. ‘Ihe old rules might be adopted temporarily in this particular but for the rea- son that there is a question as to what should be done with the appeopriation bills. Dr. Walsh says that Speaker Crisp is getting better as rapidly as any one can who has been prostrated with the grip.
