The Good Templar salutation to the new year was Coronation, sung with fervor by @ large congregation in Good Templar Hall just as the clock was striking 12 Thursday night. The meeting was under the auspices of the executive committee of the Grand Lodge, Grand Templar Van Vieck presiding. The pro- ceedings were opened with the song, “Rescue the Perishing,” Grand Counselor Rowley lead- ing, tollowed ‘with prayer by Grand Chaplain Blackford. Grand Secretary Spurgeon re- corded and six signitures to the total abstinence pledge were secured. The program was arranged by the good of the order com- mittee of Friendship Lodge. Mrs. Emma Berg- man, chairman, and was directed by Lodge Deputy W. K. Zeigler, chairman of the public meeting committee. [t introduces many lovely and gitted women, and is replete with new songs, music and dances. ‘Tur Srwruosy Oncurstes.—The Symphony Orcnestra of New York, Walter Damrosch, con- ductor, is to give its first concert in Wasbing- ton at Albaugh’s on Tuesday, January 12. ‘The soloists for the occasion are to be Xaver Schar- wenka, the eminent pianist, and Miss Christine Nielson, contralto. Mr. Damrosch has the only permanent orchestra in New York, or- ganized last fall, with an annual guarantee Organizations of Various Kinds That Held Pleasant Receptions Yesterday ‘The Washington Lodge of Elks was at home yepterday in its rooms at 9th street and Ponn- sylvania avenue. During the day there was a continuous stream of callers and when the theaters closed there was added tothe company a number of members of the profession. There were, at the lowest estimate 1,200 caller dur- ing the day Nelson Division, No. 2, Uniformed Rank K. of P., was out in force yesterday making Calls. Among those made that upon Sir Knight Jobn C. Yost and lady at 715 9th street northeast was moat enjoyable. Tho sir knights, in full uni- form, were marshaled by Col. Foxwell. Capt. Jno. H. Mille and Lieut. J. W. Hardell, and after an exchange of the usual greetings were entertained with a rendition of the K. of P. march on the piano by Miss Ida, daughter of the host. A collation was afterward served. THE Y. MC. ‘The Y. M. C. A. open house New Year day was in every sense a success. The building was ar- tistically decorated with greens, flowering and foliage plants, cut flowers and many beautiful designs in flags. Forty-five ladies assisted in the reception and generous provision was made in the way of refreshments. From 2 to7 o'clock the placo was thronged with a continuously changing multitude. In the afternoon tho gymnastic exhibition entertained a large cor pany, while in the libr phonograph d: pensed fun and music. ‘The entertainment in the evening called together a company m too large for the capacity of the gymnasium. ‘The audience was thoroughly satstied with the music by the orchestra, Prof. King. A course of four concerts was originally planned, but owing to inability to announce a place for the later concerts course tickets will not be sold.
