Myers of Montgomery county, Va., was found dead in bed at the Golden Eagle Hotel yesterday. The doctor and his brother, Andrew Myers, stopped at the hotel Wednesday and were assigned different rooms. When they reached the hotel the doctor said he was tired and wanted to go to bed and that he would wait until morning to put his name on the register. When morning came, how- ever, he bad passed into the other world. Death had resulted from a dope of chloroform, which it is not thought was taken with suicidal intent, as he had been in the habit of using it The brother of the decensed discovered the dead body. The doctor did not come down stairs, and his brother went to the room to awaken him.. He was lying on the bed with his face against a book, as though he had been reading and lid fallen asleep with the book in eet % ponse, and then his le did not make any resy and then brother gave him « shake and called to him to getup. It was then that he made the sad dis- covery. Coroner Patterson gave a certifieate of death from an overdose of the drug accidentally administered. Word has been sent to the widow of the deceased and his remains will probably be sent to his late home for interment. Idealism in Garbage. ‘To the Editor of The Evening Star: We are told how to gather garbage without being told how to make the collection of it less | disagreeable or the disposition of it more profitable. When the collection of garbage shall be made not only inexpensive, but also | inoffensive, and the garbage wnen collected a sonree of benefit to mankind, it seems to me the ideal stage of the question will be reached. I beg to indicate this happy solution. I eug- gest that a stock company shall purchase a cer- tain number of acres near Washington to use w hog farm. company shall undertake to make daily collections of garbage through- cut Washington at, say, the price accorded for the very inefficient service for the past year. This daily collection shall be the daily con- mamption of the happy hogs of the farm, who may have woodland to ream in and nuts to eat beside delightful rooting on the company’s acres. The happy hog makes the good ham. It will be to the interest of the company to have the recoptactes of the garbage clean and sweet, the uscless and by accident offensive garbage being kept apart sud burned for ma- bare. The cure ani nliness of the col- lectors in the work will be the first condition of their employment by the company, because of their chief interest in its collection. I have observed from varions buck win dows during my residence in Washing- ton thst the -hozs would have a_plentifjil and wholesome dict. If careless kitchenry wastes so much let it come back to us in bacon and sausage. Thata truck farm be attached to the hog tarm is the fond hope of one who has vainly searched in American markets for a succession of exbbage ({ mean humanly edible cabbage) and salads sach as the maricets of Paris aud Lo dion afford. One hog farming company might.fter counting their immense gains Irom the’ sale of their fattened stock, fuitened on Washington's stale bread and half-consuined joints, find time to turn to the cultivation of long lettuce or romaine, the numerous vario- ties of summer and autumn salads, including escarole and chicorice frisee, which would fur- nish our tubles till the month of March with delicious and wholesome greenery. i. pumas deal Washington and The Evening Star. Gath in the Cinciwnati Enquirer. When I was in Washington city a day or two ago I went upto the library of Congress and looked ut the files of the Washington city papers for the year 1865, at the time Johnson succeeded Lincoln, and for 1877, when Hayes succeeded Grant. I principally looked at Tux Evestxo Sra, now a broad, conspicuous sheet of eight pages at least every day. I could ly believe that the little paper g for those past rears was the same immense events as the murder of £ ring ia of Jcbuson und the disputed count. with a special tribunal of arbitration, did hot arouse the paper of thirteen yeurs ago to any extension of its limits or high cadence of sensation. As L came out of the library of Congress and stood on the portico the panorama of the new city of Washington unfolded betore my eyes, and Tcould see why we now required large newspapers. The present city had become populous and had the character by growth und aceession to sustain a very large print. I looked below me, and almost every sight was brand new.
