Correspondence of The Evenins Star. Hacerstowx, Mp., June 16, 1891. This city is evidently becoming popular a8 the place for holding annual meetings and con- ferences of religious bodies. Following closely the great Dunkard meeting, which attracted such a vast assemblage of persons from all sec- tions of the Union, we had last week in session here in the Hose Opera House the Western Dis- trict Baptist Association, which represents a number of churches in Baltimore, also one at Rockville, Germantown, Upper Seneca, Tooles- Ville, Burnestown, Good Hope, Hagerstown, Frostburg and several other places in this state, these varoius charges having » mem- bership of over 3,000. The association re- mained in session for three days, ite delibera- tions being presided over by Rev. Frank Brown of Franklin Square Church Baltimore, with Rev. J. L. Lodge of Gaithersb as clerk. Much important business was transacted and the various church, Sunday school land mission reports showed rapid progress. next an- nual meeting will at Little ‘Seneca. Hagerstown will hardly have recovered from the hum and bustle incident to the assembling of large bodies of people as those noted above before the great bicycle meet will be on, and already the eyes of several thousand wheelmen are anxiously turning toward Hagerstown in anticipation of the third district race meet to be held here July 2, 3 and 4 The district embraces the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, District of Columbia, Virginia and West Virginia, but wheelmen will be present from many other states. The prizes to be awarded at the races are very handsome, con- sisting of bicycles, silver cups, gold and ‘silver Watches, and gold and silver ‘medals. Up to date 1,000 applications for rooms have been re- ceived, wheelmen alone coming from Phila- delphie. " pulpit of the Falling Spring Church at Chambersburg is vacant, the Rey. It is situated near Blue Ridge Summit, on the Western Maryland railroad, and is intended as s sui. mer home where girls of limited means can for a few days or a couple of weeks enjoy the bracing air of the mountains. A short time ago a small number of Baltimore ladies con- ceived the idea of providing such » place for working girls, and after several meetings the little band grew toan army of hard workers.
