Some slight differences exint in the memorial committee over the selection of St. Elizabeth Park as the place for holding the memorial ex- ercises. Many thiuk that the hospitality of the superintendent of St. Elizabeth is being transgressed. Dr. Godding at first gen! antagonized the presence of @ brass within the grounds because it would attract an undesirable element and might create panic among the insane inmates.” Several, of the committee demanded a band and Dr. Godding acquiesced. It was next to protect the beantifal grounds of the asylum by closing the gates on the crowd attracted by the band, but many committeemen deprecate this, alleg- ing it inappropriate in a Grand Army post to deny the people the right of celebratin them. Benen eoe that the a ~ ee} power to exclude persons from the groun 4 public institution. It was desired to arrange the exercises so as not to conflict with the din- ner hour at the hospital, but it is believed now that the services cannot be concluded much before 3 o'clock. ‘The procession is to form in Market place, Anacostia, at 11 a m., but the usual delays are expected. The ceme- tery, containing the remains of over hundred soldiers and sailors, lies about a third of a mile outside the asylum wall and by many it is considered better to celebrate at some spot where families can carry lunch bas- kets.
