It is safe and popular to be on the colored side of the question, but those most deeply interested will not claim for themselves that which Mr. Evans in his new-born zeal and unlearned haste endeavors How ‘the Columtian Exposition Will Look ¥ ‘When Heady for Visitors. « The arrangement of the principal buildings | of the Columbien exposition at Chicago has been made and a bird's-eye view of the site and the ground plans of the buildings will soon be issued. ‘The Chicago site is four times as large as that of the Paris exposition, and has a frontage of two miles on Lake Michigan. The buildings will cover twice the area and cost twice as much.as did those at Paris in 1889. Alone they will cost nenrly fifty per cent more than the total expense attending the Parig fair. More than $4,000,000, exclusive of the cost of the land. has been spent on Jackson and Wash- ington parks, in laying them out and beautify- ing them. Another tnillien will be spent in their improvement. A ride of six miles on the lake will teke the visitor to the fair grounds. ‘The northern portion, comprising a hundred acres, will contain the buildings of foreign nations and the states of the Union; how many it cannot now be predicted. In the western part of the group will stand the Ilinois build- ing, 400x150 in size, and costing #850.000.
