NOT TO BE DETERRED BY TRE OUTCOME OF THE O'SHEA DIVORCE CABE--A FIERCE COMBAT EX- PECTED AND HE WISHES TO CLOSE UP THE RANKS, Special London Cable Dispatch to the New York World. Mr. Parnell fornished the World tonight with the following letter which he has sent to the Irish members: Dear Sir: You will permit me, in accordance with my usual custom, toremind the members of the Irish parliamentary party that the session will open on Tuesday, the 25th instant, when it is most desirable that our full strength should be available, I wish to lay special stress upon the necessity for the attendance of every man upon the opening day, as it is unquestionable that the coming session will be one of combat from the first to the last and that great issues depend upon its course. I am, dear sir, yours truly, Cuantes Stewart Panyert. November 15, 1890. This letter affords a direct corroboration of the World's interview of Saturday as to the manner in which Mr. Parnell intends treating an adverse verdict in the O'Shea divorce suit. It will be observed as characteristic of the man that when the whole political world here was wildly speculating as to what Mr. Parnell would do he was coolly penning his whip to his fol- lowers according to his usual custom. He thus, according to the fervid views of his ‘most enthusiastic friends, ‘sets at rest once and for all the hopes of the tories and the fears of the liberals that he would permit this political cabal in the shape of a divorce suit drive him from the arpa | of the party which he has created and raised to a position of unexam- pled power in British politics. The judge will direct the jury to find for Capt. O'Shea and a decree nesi will be granted, At the end of six months Capt. O'Shea can apply to have the decree made absolute. Then the marriage will be dissolved, leaving Mr. Parnell and Mrs, O'shea free to marry if they wish. This is not an improbable consequence of the suit, according to the best opinion in political circles. The World correspondent is informed on the best authority that there is nothing in Capt. O’Shea’s statement made on Saturday that his wife told him that Mr. Parnell had been se- cretly married. Mrs. O'Shea told a friend who saw her after court adjourned that she never told her husband any such Of course by leaving the case undefended Mr, Parnell gives Capt. O'Shea achance to say what he pleases, ooo THE REAR GUARD’S LOG BOOK. Stanley’s Zanzibar Servant Relates His Experience. The London Times continues its publication of the rear guard log books, &c. Stanley’ Zanzibar servant, Saleh Ben Osman, gave this version of the cannibalism incident: Jameson gave Hamadisome cloth to purchase a slave. Hamadi procured a girl, but refused to deliver her personally to the cannibals, and Jameson took her by the wristand handed her to them. They stabbed her dead, cut up the flesh while it still quivered, toasted it on sticks and ate it while Jameson sat sketching the scene. Tip- poo Tib on hearing the story was disgusted and refused to see Jameson for two days. On ar- riving at the falls Barttelot tried to get a car- rier from Tippoo Tib through the Sodanese chief, Megara. He told the latter he should send Bonny home and he and Jameson wouid cut their way to Wadelai, rescne Emin and re- turn big men, “the (Megara) will be big chief in Egypt and I genera! iu England.” Salch says Tippoo warned Berttelot to be specially careful in dealing with the Manyemas and not molest their women, this being their most sensitive point. In regard to the murder of Barttelot Saleh declares that Barttelot knocked Sanga's wife off @ seat and kicked her in the stomach. Sanga, on learning this, obtained a gun and fired twice, killing Barttelot and wounding «a woman. Bonny succeeded in quieting the excited camp. In the evening the Zangbaris danced and sang and burned the wooden triangle where the major had go often caused them to be flogged. When the Arabs at the falls expressed sorrow for Barttelot'’s death Jamoson remarked: “He killed himse!: The Pumpkin Contest. Messrs. Saks & Co.'s guessing contest closed Saturday night. The pumpkin aud the box containing the guesses were given into the charge of Messrs. 0, C. Green, director of ‘Traders’ National Bank; Sam'l Cross, secretary Washington Safe Deposit Company, and C. UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPT TO PROVE AN ALIBi— WITNESSES ARRESTED FOR PERIURY—THE T. ATTORNEY AND POSTMASTER AT JACKSON BOTD FORMER WASHINGTONIANS. Correspondence of Trt Frrxtwa Stam Jackson, Miss., Nov. 14 Yesterday the jury in the case of the United States against Rube Smith, the last of the Rube Burrows gang of train robbers, who has been on trial since Monday last for robbing the United States mail car near Buckatunna, Wayne county, Miss.,on the morning of Sep- tember 25, 1889, brought in a verdict of “guilty as charged,” and he will receive his sentence today of imprisonment for life. He is already undergoing a sentence of ten years for com- plicity in the robbery at the same time of the Southern Express car. The robbery was com- mitted by Rube Burrows, Joe Jackson and attempted to regain money taken from him, but was killed im attempt. Joe Jackson and Rube Smith hunted down and arrested throug! ing vigilance of Superintendent Southern Express Company and the United States detectives. Jackson and Smith were tried by the state authorities for the ex rob- bery and were respectively sentenced to fifteen and ten years in the penitentiary at this The United States then found indictments against them for the robbery of the mail car, and the trial was set for Monday last While Jackson was being taken from his cell om Monday last he escaped from his guard and rapidly ascending the stairway leading to the upper tier of celis precipitated himself head> long to the brick pavement below, s distance of fifty fect, crushing in his skull, and he died in few minutes. leliberate suicide, as he announced his intention before he leaped, al- though the guards endeavored to dissuade him from doing do. AN UNSUCCESSFUL ALIDI ATTEMPT. Smith was brought into court and his eoun- sel, Col. Jno. A. Blair of Tupelo, Miss, made strenuous efforts to prove an alibi for the pris- oner. Two uncles and a consin of the prisoner swore that on the night preceding and on the night of the robbery Rube Smith was at his home in Lamar county, Ga, some 300 miles from the scene of the robbery. James Barker, his uncle, swore that he slept with him at bis house on cach night, but the government serps that Smith was seen in the neighbor- ood of the robbery afew hours before it was committed, and other strong circumstantial evidence was adduced which could not be over- come. Threo letters written by the prisoner to his father and which were intercepted bye faithful convict were introduced in evidence, and which sealed his fate. In them he con- fessed the robbery and asked his father to send hum three pistols by his Uncle Jim. He wrote that if he could get them be could Jackson, prior to his death, made a con- fession in writing to Superintendent Agee, who withholds it from publication, as he is de- termined to run down and punish the aides and abettors of the gang, who are scattwured throughout the region of the territory where the gang operated. Smith is believed to be the last of the gang who were active in the robberies, The Buck- atunna affair was his first public exploit, and thus the career of a promising train robber has been nipped in the bua. Smith, Jackson and Burrows were all cou- sins, and most of the witnesses for the defense were relatives, The three relatives who swore to the attempted alibi were promptly indicted for perjury, and while the jury were out on Smith's case they were arraigned at the bar to plead. Barker (-‘Uncle Jim,” who was to bring the pistols to Rube Smith in the penitentiary), in answer to the question “Are you guilty or not guilty?” answered: “I don’t know whether I am guilty orno. I sup) Lam guilty, bat I reckon { am not guilty.” The other two answered jot guilty, the way it reads.” ‘Their trial will take place at once, GOOD WORK OF THE U. & ATTORNEY. John Moore, young colored man, and Ada Brown, a good-looking colored girl, admitted in the Police Court today that they loved each othe-, and it was for that reason that John probably had a pistol Saturday to use on his sweetheart. Ada went to a house on Armory street, where John found her. It was in evi- dence that John objected to her going to the house in which he found her, and « witness said that he drew a pistol and told her that he bought it for her and if he had seen ber earlier in the day he would have used it on her, Jobn denied the charge, but Officer Mulvey produced a revolver that he recovered from where he learned Moore had left it. Lawyer Ricks argued that John found the girl in a house of ill repute and he went to rescue her from what promised to be a life of shame.
