In the Criminal Court, Chief Justice Bing- ham, this morning among the prisoners ar raigned was George Carter, the colored burglar who it will be remembered was shot in a laun- dry on Pennsylvania avenue near 43¢ street the | latter part of March by aChinaman. He plead guilty to an indictment for housebreaking in the iaundries of Moy Jim Lee, L.ce Quong, Sam Lee and Han Wah. Mr. Hewlett asked j that the court be as lenient as possible on ac- |count of the prisoner's mother and sisters, He had been shot and lay some time in the hospital at the point of death. The court inquired on what part of the body he was struck. The prisoner turned and | pointed out three places in his back, stating | that two of the balls were still in him. Mr. Lipscomb remarked that the Chinaman shot in the dark and three shots took effect, and the prisoner turned and fired one shot, which missed. He further stated that the prisoner had served a sentence of two years in the penitentiary. ‘The court imposed a sentence of four years in the Albany penitentiary. A GIRL THIEF SENTENCED. Ella Washington, a colored girl of nineteen years, inaicted for the larceny of #40 from Joseph Danbake, plead guilty and was sen- tenced to one year in the Albany penitentiary. TWO YEAHS FOR STEALING A WATCH, George Brown, a young white man, plead guilty tothe larceny of a watch worth 50 from the person of James McNulty April 19. LOCAL MENTION. The Weather.
