To- morrow’s paper, in addition to being a com- plete record of the world’s doings for a day, will be supplied with a large number of special articles on subjects of general interest to its readers, Watch for the paper tomorrow and see if it does not satisfy all your claims and needs, The following areafewof the special articles prepared for Saturday: AROUND THE HOUSE (illustrated). Postmaster General Wanamaker recently re- ceived a letter from the president of an asso- ciation of post office clerks stating that it was understood that he was of the opinion that it ‘Was not wise at this time to urge upon Congress the passage of all the measures now pending for the relief and benefit of clerks in post @ffices, The writer stated that the clerks would be glad to co-operate in any action which might be considered forthe best interest of the service. An estimate had been prepared at the depart- ment of the amount of money that would be involved if these measures became laws and in his reply Mr. Wanamaker gave these figures: He stated that the bill fixing eight hours as a day's work for clerks in post offices would en- ta:l an estimated increase of postal oa amounting to about 82.375,000; Pinat the bill al- lowing the clerks fifteen duys’ leave each year with pay would cost about $519,157, while the re; estimated increase for the employ- ment of additional clerks, increases of sularies, &c., was $1,040,000. a total increase of nearly $4,000,000, or over 60 per cent more than the present appropriation of #€6,550,000. Under these circumstances it did not seem to be wise for the clerks to press the passage of all these measures at one and the same time. ‘What the Driver Did. G. W. Stein, who isa driver for Havenner’s bakery, writes to Taz Star that Mr, Schneider erred im saying that one of his drivers, on leav- ing him during the recent trouble, went around With one of Havenner’s drivers to sell Haven- ner’s bread to Schneider's customers. Mr. Stein says the driver in question was his brother, aud, living on his route, simpiy rode about with him for pastime. a They Want Reform. ‘The Reform Club, which has been organized among the membersof Asbury M.E. The trouble in the camp of the Rechabites mentioned in last night's Stan still continues, Efforts have been made to come to some satis- factory conclusion, but without success. Yes- terday the grand secretary, L. H. Patterson, called a meeting for last night in the hall of the order, corner 434 street and Pennsylvania avenue, and in his call announced that the action of the high chief ruler in hold- ing a meeting Wednesday evening was illegal. Cammack Tent was using the hall last night for its regular meeting, and the Patterson meeting adjourned to the Knights of Labor hall on Missouri avenue. Grand Tent degrees were conferred upon the new repre- sentatives and reports were received and referred to appropriate The election of officers tesulted as follows: W. J. HEWETT IN NEW YORK, He Will Attend the Meeting There of | dt the Atlantic Association, President Walter Hewett of the local base ball club has gone to New York to attend a meeting of the Atlantic Association to be held there this afternoon at 4 o'clock. A large amount of business is on hand to be disposed of—first, the adoption of a schedule, the appointment of four umpires and several other details, Mr. Hewett will make a strong effort to induce the asso- ciation to open the championship season early, about the 20th of April, as the major leagues do, instead of waiting until the Ist of May or thereabouts. He is likely to be treated with extreme consideration by the association, for Washington is by far the strongest city in the circuit and was a great accession. The Richmond club, the same that beat Bal- timore yesterday, will probably play here April 14and 15, ‘The Detroit team haa de- cided not to come and so no games will be played here on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. The men had a Siginste game yes- terday and will continue the work teday and tomorrow morning im order to get into some sort of shape for the game with Rochester to- morrow, which will be called at Capi- tol Park at 4:15 o'clock. Commander Joseph B, Coghlan of the navy was recently ordered before a court-martial for trial on charges of conduct unbecoming an officer anda gentleman in having written a newspaper erticle criticising and ridiculing the administration of naval affairs, When the case wascailed the accused plead not guilty and the civilian witnesses by whom it was expected to prove the authorship of the newspaper ar- ticle refused to testify and the court was pow- erless in the matter, While the law gives army courts-martial the same eapeete4 over civilian witnesses as is civil courts there is nothing in the law compelling the attendance of civilian witnesses at naval courts-martial. The record in the Coghlan case has not yet been received at the Navy Department, but in view of the absence of proof there is no doubt of his —e. In anticipation of that result Com- mander Coghlan has written to the Secretary of the Navy requesting that he be restored to the command of the Mohican, The request is not likely to be granted. Nearly half are females, carrying each several thousand fertilized eggs attached to their swimmeretts, Should the lobsters reach their destination safely this ex) iment will deter- mine whether they will ‘ive in gulf waters. ‘The commissioner is now gee bh of good re- sults, but the possibility of ing the lobster to the food resources of that region is a matter of such importance as to warrant this attempt at Foreign Notes of Interest.
