THE EVENING STAR: WASHINGTON, soc i MATTERS. Wanamaker’s € Cabinet Dinner— Teas and a Receptions. The Postmaster General and Mrs. Wana- maker gave a state dinner last evening in honor of the President and Mrs. Harrison, Vice President and Mrs. Morton, the cabinet ministers and their wives and other invited The tabie made as pretty Sea, in form and decoration, as one could possibly ine. The table was round and the artis- imagine. The re in white and green. The centerpiece was a mass of French white lilacs im an oval vase, which rested upon a silver- rimmed mirror. About this, flat upon the cloth, was laid a circie of cut lilies of the valley and outside of thatacircle of maiden hair ferns. Around the table were four high vases filled with Mar; ites and lilies of the valley fringed wit ferns. Across the cloth were strewn fronds of fern, and the cloth below the board —_ festooned with asparagus vines. The boq: and boutonniers were composed <a white Mr. violets and lillies of the valley, and the former were tied with white rib- bons. The white tapers burned in silver candelabra under white shadea There were no wine glasses on the table. The elabo- rate menu was served without liquers. The company ded to the dining room in the —- order: The President escorted Mrs, Wanamaker and the Postmaster General Mrs. Harrison. The Vice President gave hisarm to Mrs. Platt and Mra. Soft music by « hidden orchestra was played during the ser- vice of the dinner, and afterward there was a delightful musicale for the dinner guests, after dinner company was invited for the even- img. Mrs. Wanamaker wore a ‘ing prin cesse dinner dress hel silver =< silk, e broidered with pear! wo was ina blue toilet of silhsnd and Cee and Mrs. Rodman Wanamaker was daintily attired in white faille, ‘Teas were in process all over the city yester- One of the gayest was that given by Mrs. Tyler of I street in honor of her guest, Miss Barnes. The hostess stood within the heavily curtained doors of her first arawing room to receive her guests, with a Japanese screen at her back and Miss Barnes at her side. Mra. Tyler was in a becoming toilet of white silk uze, embroidered in wild flower bouqhets in licate colors, Miss Barnes, who is a gracious and a graceful girl, was in a demure gown of brown silk, with some changeable purple lizhts upon it and some panets of brown velvet were ip the drapery. The bodice was cut out in a Lady Jane Gray pattern, Mrs. Gould, in a rich «own of wine colured velvet and lace, made and poured tea in the drawing room. In the second room Mrs. Barney, in a toilet of white embroidered mulle, pre- sided over emall table where a = service was spread. Mrs. Dr. Loring irs. John A. Kodgers presided in the dining _— where a superb collation was spread. The rooms were softly lighted by a number of shaded lamps. Mrs. Isaac Henderson of New York and her daughter, Mrs. Carbangh, gave one of the most enjoyable teas of the season yesterday at their home, No. 1612 Khode Island avenue, from 4to7. The suite of rooms were lighted with lamps and graced with cut flowers, tall lilies and fragrant roses, and a few musi- cians in the second drawing room filled the house with music. Mrs. Henderson received her guests at the door of the first drawing room ina tasteful toilet of white ottoman silk shaded by black thread lace, Beside her stood Mrs. Carbaugh ina pretty gown of white embroidered mull, with fuil sleeves of polka-dotted white net. Miss Harriott Hutchinson, in a gay dress of crimson silk and black uncut velvet was a helpful and charming assistant to the hostesses. Mrs, Frost wore a dress of wood brown silk. Mrs. Frey, who is a sister of Mrs. Henderson, was in black net and lace, very effectively worn, and she pre- sided over the coffee. Miss Edith Soule. in blue tulle, served the punch; Miss Gouverneur, in a blue gray toilet, was one of the hostesses, end Mrs. kay of New York, who is a guest of the house, attired in red silk, was introduced to the guests. Attentive waiters served salads, hot oysters and confectionery from a table that @ center piece of La France roses and was lighted with candles capped by Persian shades.
