It is rumored that he has divposed of his league franchise to the Brooklyn club, but it is hardly probable that such a deal has been consummated. During the past year the Senatorial team has been a constant drain upon the Hewett estate, and as exeentor of his father’s will he does not feel | justitied in drawing any further upon the fem- ily treasury for funds to invest in base ball. He réalizes that he cannot attend to his real estate business in conjunction with a base ball club, andas the latter yields him no profit it will have to go.” This is not strictly true. Mr. Hewett, as has been well known here for almost the entire season. has serious inclinations to leave the business, but, as he stated only a day ago to a Srap reporter. he is perfectly willing to con- tinue if be can find two or three other men who will advance equal shares of stock. Mr. Hewett says, very wisely. that $10,000 is not enough capital for a first-class ball club, that it should be increased to 220,000, or better, $25,000. He wants to find some partners in the concern, for he likes base ball and would continue in the business gladiy if some one would share responsibility with him. He is not going to act hastily in the matter, for he has all winter to look around him. He will reserve his men with the rest of the clubs and will occupy his spare time be- | tween now and the opening of the next season | looking for capitalists. The sale of the goods at the park is simply necessitated by the ex- piration of Mr. Hewett's lease, which will occur November 1. He would have to vacate on that day and he concluded that it will be cheaper to sell the fences, stands, &c., than to store them. THE MISSING GIRL. No Tidings Yet Received from Mr. J. B. Brown’s Daughter. No tidings bad been heard today from Miss Susan Isabella Brown, daughter of Mr. J. B. Brown of 1805 14th street, who, as stated in| Tae Stan of Saturday, disappeared Thursday. Her father, in speaking to a Stan reporter to- day, expressed the opinion that the young lady, who was of somewhat morbid and sensitive nature and high spirited, bad become depressed because her ambition asa student surpassed her ability. She was, he said, extremely anxious to succeed and excel as a scholar, and studied very hard. He knew of no tronble that she bad that would lead her to suicide or even to flight from her home, and there was no person, bes knew of, in whom she was interested enough to elope with him. Miss Brown attended the theater Wednesday evening with members of her family and appeared to be in gay Spirits. | ‘Thursday morning there was nothing unusaal | iu her conduct or appearance when she left | home to go to school at the Academy of the Holy Cross. She left her books there and went out, telling one of the sisters that she would re- turn in half an hour. She did not return and bas not been heard of since. ee The New St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
