TF THE EVENING STAR: WASHINGTON, D.C., TUESDAY. ocT6BER 8, 1889—TWELVE PAGES. A GRAND PARADE. KNIGHTS TEMPLAR IN LIN Martial Music and Military Precision— Mystic Devices and Knightly Bearing—The Commanderies in Line—Details of the Great Procession. EVER was a finer parade seen on Pennsylvania ave- nue than that of the Templars to day. There may have been proces- Ssions with greater =< numbers of men. There may bave been military pageants that received an added splendor in the imagination because of the glory of the achievements rep- resented by the ragged, battle-stained men im line. There may have been inaugural displays that appealed more strongly to the popular fancy in the enthusiasm and excitement of political victory. But when all the suggestion of inauguration and association is strip ped from these it may safely be said that there never was a parade like the | one of today, composed of 20,000 men, all well uniformed and well drilled. It is doubtful, too, whether 20,000 better-looking men could be gotten together in one line. The parade today was formed in the streets about the Capitol. The arrangements made by the chief marshal, Myron M. Parker, were excellent. Chief Marshal Parker prof- ited by bie experience as marshal of the civic of the imaugur: a parade. ‘The different sto, ivisions forming the 3 main body of the proces- sion were massed about the streets east of the Capitol, opening upon the Capitol grounds in such a manner that each moved quickly and with- Out confusion into its lace when the first ivision arrived and marched around the* Capitol grounds.
