The following petition accompanied the letter: “We, the undersigned property-hold- ers, respectfully request that you take imme- diate action and grant the request of Mesers, Parker and Dwyer in the matter of removing illegal fences which obstruct E street where it crosses Virginia avenue southwest. The seventh anniversary of the pastorate of the Rev. Dr. Wm. A. Bartlett, of the New York Avenue Presbyterian church, was observed yes- terday by a historical discourse delivered by the pastor. After sketching the history of the church, Dr. Bartlett said that the membership was now 849. Seven years ago it was 622. A young women named Sadie Currans, charged with robbing Miss Rhoda G, Welty, of No. 617 6th street northwest, was in the Police Court Saturday. The prisoner found employ- ment at the Norwood institute not long ago, and shortly afterward complaint was made to the police that she had robbed her employer. She was arrested, but friends interceded for her, and when she was taken to the Police Court Judge Miller was willing to give her a chance to reform, and suspended execution of sen- tence in her case with the understanding that ported the theft to the police last Friday morn- ing, and Detective Horne was sent to the house to investigate the case. The result was that he arrested Sadie, when she made a cunfession. Saturday afternoon, in the Police Court. Judge Miller enforced the previous sentence of $50 or 90 days, and imposed an additional sentence of two months in jail. —___ Herm. W.
