The course of our summer storms across the Sierras is such that they are almost avariably carried to the’ southward of us, and directly to the peaks of the mountains mentioned above. The so-called cloud-bursts are simply the sud- len condensation of the vapor forming the uds, caused by the meeting and mingling ot fo currents of alr. A current or stratum of ir colder than that carrying the clouds canses chem to suddenly condense and fall to tue ground. The reason cloud-bursts generally oc- cur in the vicinity of high mountains is because there are found broken and contrary currents of air. Doubtless there are powerful electrical changes and disturbances at the point where the two currents of air and the cloud masses meet, and doubtless these aid in the sudden con- densation of the watery vapors. Be this as it may,our people may console themselves with the reflection that we are out of the course of cloud-bursts.
