In style itis rather unusual and unique; and, situated upon a spacious lot, 4 by 129 feet, will, when ready for occupancy, be one of the mest commodious and comfortable residences in the city. Its cost, when finished, will amount to about $11,000, A few coors west of Mr. Sergeant's resi- dence, Mr. D. Hepburn is making handsome improvements to an old brick residence owned by him, which was erected about the time that the Old Capitol was built. From an unsightly, old-iashioned structure, he has converted it into a most comfortable, well-ventileted build- ing, comprising fiiteen rooms, halls, gas, water, marble mantels, and other modern ‘conve- niences. The house is built of brick, with mas- tie side and tront coating, is three stories high, with six rooms in first and second stories, and three rooms in the third story. Mr. Hepburn is superintending his own improvements, and a to have them completed in a few weeks. At the corner of Ist and A streets south, the Already handsome brick re-idence of Gen N. P. Four of these tenements belong to Mr. I. S. Barker. four to Mr. Wm. H. Campbell, and two to Mr.M.G. Copeland. Mr. I. 5. ATTEMPTED BURGLARY.—Abont one o’elock yesterday morning, Private Doyle, of the fourth Precinct, while, patrolling his beat, in Pissing the corner of 23d street and Pennsyl- Vania averue, discovered a black man trying to pry open the cellar door of John H. Cnld well, a butter dealer. When the thief disco: ered the officer be started to run, but wa: or. dered to halt. He refused to do so, and was pur- sued by Officer Doyle, who fired at him twice, but missed bim each time—the thief making good his escape.
