A letter from the Philadelphia Association was Tead, inviting them to send representatives to an important convention soon to be held in that city. The Chair appointed a delegation con- sisting of Mabe General O. O. Howard, Briga- cier Generai S. L. Brown, and Major A. P. Ketchum. General Brown, chairman of the building committee, ted a report recom- mending that four additional directors be ap- pointed, and one in the place of T. J. Perry, who bad resigned. Messrs. L. Ulephane, A. E. Shepherd, Wm. B. Todd, John R. Elvans, ard Samuei Norment, were elected such di- rectors, and the board were cmp?wered to increase the building committee to five. Gen- eral Brown further stated that he hoped that within a week or two pacino ge now being made would be completed that would add greatly to the certninty of success, and vastly increase the ucefulness of this noble under- taking for the benefit of the city. A report favommg the introduction of temperance pledges into the Sanaay schools of the city was adopted. Also, a constitution for the government of the two Sabbath schools known ‘as the Canal Mission, and the officers elected by the teachers of these schools were con- firmed. eg VIOLATING CoRPORATION ORDINANCES. — Saturdsy morning, John Lee, a restaurant keeper, was arrested by Lieut. Tate. of the Second Ward, for keeping his establishment open after the hours prescribed by law. Jus- tice Morsell fined him $20.58, and he took an Appeal to court. William Hayes, colored hack driver. was arrested by officer White. of the Seventh War for running a back without license, It ws taken before Justice Boswell, who fined him $2, which he paid. Charles Smith and Robert Fisher. colored, ‘were arrested by officers Ray and Wilson. of the Second Ward, for gambling. They were taken before Justice Morsell, who discharged Smith spon payment of $5 fine; but as there ‘was suspicion that Fisher was concerned in a Tecent burglary, judgment In his case was postponed until after a hearing in the burglary case can be had Acolored youth, named Edward Douglass, ‘was arrested Saturday evening for displaying bis pugilistic skill in the market. Francis Harrison, was arrested by Officer Rossiter for cruetiy beating her, and Justice Drury committed him to jail for court. | A heavy stick was exbibited to ‘the jury, and ‘Witnesses testified that he had frequently peat | the deceased with it. Dr. Hopkins testified that her death was caused by the injuries re- ce’ved. The jury returned a verdict that her | dea: Was caused by blows inflicted on her | head and other parts of her body with a heavy baton, and that the blews were given | by her husband, Francis Harrison The body was taken ip charge by the Vincent de Paul Society for burial Upon the return of the verdict of the jury, a commitment was sent to the county jail for the retention of Francis Harris n for trial at court on the charge of murder. Harrison is an Englishwan, who made a living by filing saws, &c. eee ae erent PRESENTATION.—On Saturday afternoon, the bookbiuders employed in the bindery at the Government Printing Office presented Mr. Geo. P. Gott, late superintendent of the bind- ery, with a beautiful and costly set of silver service, consisting of a large waiter, coffee, tea and chocolate urns, cream pitcher, sugar and slop-bow!, castor, fruit-basket. wine stand, with three Bohemian ware bottles, ice pitcher, and four gold-limed goblets, the cost of the en- tire set being $25). The committee—Messrs. .}. M. Knott, A. McGowan and V. Bishop—intro- duced Mr. Goff tothe ladies and gentlemen employed in the office, when Joseph W. Mat- Ungly made the presentation in a neat and ap- propriate address. The corpse was removed to the German Lutheran Church, corner of 20th and G streets west, escorted by Oriental Lodge No. 19,1. O. O.
