Correspondence of the is a Lonlevill, Courier.) This is 8 wicked world. I verily believe, and 1 am confirmed in that sage opinion by a scan- dalous affair, which I may re’ to withontany ‘iclation of good taste, since the matter is one of record. Your readers will remember thata year or two ago there was a wedding here in high life (se & Northern Staie, who counted his fortunes by ‘aughter of a then cabinet minister was the bride. Rare jewels, worth hundreds of thou- sands of dollars, were Iavished on the fair lady, and such a wedding was never in the land since Commodore Bartlett's daugh- ter married the Cuban negro Oviedo. Well, there have been many ramors about ‘be coupie just named, and the air has been thick with scandalous rumors. It was knewn the husband was a festive cuss, and that his thousands were spent in riotous living—wine, cards and other etceteras. Hut only latterly said Whe wile seem to know or at leasi to notice Xhe delinquency of her lord, when it was pre- sented to in sucha shape that there could be no doubt of bis infidelity; or, to be plainer, the services of 8 physician were required to heal the body as well as a lawyer to heal her ‘wounded sensibilities. And so she has brought aetion for divorce, and will of course get inging damages; both of which she is en. led to, albeit the lady herselfis very gay. The case will create a sensation when the pames are given to the public. Stooping to folly is a common thing in this World, especially in the hot-bed of corruption A sad case has just been made known, where & young “woman belonging to the most aristo- cratic cirele of the Federal city bins gone astray She bad pot even been suspected until a few days ago. when her prolonged absence in New York, where she had gonea visit, led to in- quiry, avd ber parents to their borror ascer- tained sbe had voluntarily become the inmate of a farhionabie brothel. THE FRENOH. ae New York, Oct. 5.—A Paris letter of the 18th ot September says :— In consequence of some importapt news received from Mexico on the 15th, the Emperor of France, who had already despatched General DeCastelman, his aide-de_ eamp,to Maximilian, sent him an order by telegraph to come back to St. Uleud, where his structions were to be revised and modified. Marsbal Raudin, the Minister of War, was present at this in erview, which 1 am assured was of the most important cparacter, ac- cording to the version generally accepted, based, I understand, not merely upon the critical condition of affairs in Mexico, but alsu upon the firmness of the atti- tude recently ‘assumed by the’ Cabinet of WAshington, The intention of the French government is to bring abont a speedy settle- ment of the Mexican question, so as. to get rid 4s soon as possible of this perpetual subject of solicitude and annoyance, To this effect the fleet of transports collected at Brest and Oler- bourg is to be largely increased so as to be ca- pable of carrying the whole of the Fresch contingent and to evacuate Mext- co-all at once. All that will remain of the French army will then be a small garri- son in each of the harbors “where the Custom House duties are conceded to France by Maxmillian are to be collected. Such are, 1 am aseured, the measures just adopted in Cabinet Council in reference to Mexico. 1 must say, however, that the Paris Patric is not quite of that opinion, and asserts, on the con- trary, that General Castieman’s mission has not tor ite objects, to put an end to the intervention, of France in Mexico” juicides.
