Dr. Lynch, Bishop of Cbarieston, S. C. Mantyt’s Hatt.—Select Prize uerade of the Hebrew Beneficial Society, in aid of the Poor, at Marini’s Hall, E street, between 9th nd 10th, this evening. Four splendid prizes t be awarded to the four best original maskers. Opp Frttows’ Hatt.—The entertainment for the benefit of the poor of this city, which takes place this evening, promises to be a very enjoyable sffair. During the evening lifelike portraits of Presidents Lincoln and Johnson and General Grant will be exhibited, and the popular song “Wearing of the Green” will be sung. CANTERBY RY.— “Guerrillas of the Potomac,” “Haunted House.” and other attractions this evening, including the rope feat of M'He Fore- steel, &c. oes AMERICAN STEEL aND Ine ASSOCIATION— Evening Session.—On the reassembling of the association in the evening a series of resolu- tions were presented by the Chairman of the committee appointed in the morning, favoring the protection of home incustry, caring for the interests of Bome labor, d for the stability 4nd finsncial prosperity of the Government; which were nnanimously adopted. Addresses were delivered by Dr. Wm. Elder, of the Treasury Department; Hon. Green Clay South, of Kentucky: Hen. Simon Cameron, Mr. G_ B. Stebbins, Hon. J. K. Morehead, Hon. R_S. Hale, Hon. H. Bundy, and Mr. Robinson, strongly favoring the policy of a high tariff for the protection of home interests. A resolution was adopted appointing a cous." Mittee of ten to wait on the Committee of Ways and Means and Manufactures of Congress to urge on them the protective policy. The following was also adopted. Resolved, That this association wait on the President of the United States and present to him a copy of the resolutions passed by the as- sociation this evening. On motion. the president of the association Was requested to wait on the President of the United States to-day and ascertain at what time he will be ready to receive the members of the association in a body. The place of the next meeting was fixed at Philadelphia, unless otherwise ordered; and the meeting adjourned. ss Yauxker Lanp.—One of the largest neatest. Monday evening a large and intelli- gent nudience was assembled there to hear the celebrated wit and poet. John G. Saxe, deliver his lecture, (or rather recite his poem) entitled “Yankee Land,” a subject he is fully compe- tent to treat, being by birth, instinct, and edu- cation. a fitting representative of the inhabi- tants of that interesting section. The lecturer is pe puny whining rhymster, but a wholesome, @e Sarge hearted, stalwart Green Mountain boy, least six feet high. His subject embraced de- “e€triptions of New England scener$. homes, as habits, history, and manners, not forgetting the skating. sleighing, love-making and (as he hap- pily styled it) other «-luxuries” of that favorite iand im the winter season. Mr. Saxe recited, by request. his poem of “The proud Miss Mc- Bride.” which ts one of nis b2ppiest efforts. ss ~ BurGLary.—This morning, abont half-past three o'clock, the residence of Hon. Reverdy Jobnson, on Vermont avenue. between H and i streets, was entered by two negro burglars. They came in by the back gate of the premises, got into the cellar, and forced up the trap-door. They appropriated several coats, but being overheard by the inmates, were alarmed, and succeeded in making their escape. One ofthem was seized in the house by Mr. Johnson, who was unable to hoid him; but he thought he identified the negro as aman formerly in his employ. Officers Markwood and Britt were soon on the spot, and getting a description of the suspected one, went to the Park. on 7th treet, and arrested him. A woman named Kate Reese and the proprietor’ wife had a quarrel, when Groshart seized a batehet and, Kate Reese says, struck her with it. The neighbors ran in and prevented any serious fighting.
