The applications for loans and discounts are very limited, reflecting the inac- Uvity which prevails in all the markets. On call loans the rate is generally six per cert. ‘There are fewer bills offered tor discount, and less inquiry for paper. Prime names pass at 7 per cent.: “good” at %a9 cent.; lower grades at l(al5 percent. Gold is steady. The Government has sold @ moderate amount du- Ting the last few days, and the supply is more | adequate to the current large demand for cus- toms. The foreign bankers and others having hoards of gold are iending at from 1-!6a\ per | cent. per day. Foreign exchange is firmer. The following quotation of priees in the Baltimore markets is from the American of this | morning Coffee.— Rio is in tair request and firm, ran- ging from 1Sa21 cents, gold, as to quality. No transactions in Lagnayra or Java reported, but prices are nominally unchanged. Flour.—We notice more inquiry for good brands of Howard street flour, suiiable for re- tailing, and a firmer market. Shipping brands ot City Mills extra are also in some demand, and held at full previous rates. Low grades continue neglected and heavy. Sales reported of XO barrels good Howard street super at $5.5¢a$S.75, and 100 barrels extra do. at $9.50 per barrel. @Grain.—This morning the offerings ot Whea at the Corm Exchange were limited to 3” bush- els white and 3,000 bushels red. Transactions in the former variety were confined toa lot of | very prime at 280 cents. Sales of red com- prised the entire receipts at prices ranging from 2003265 for inferior to prime Congr F some 500 bushels bringing the latter figure. Of Corn 26.000 bushels were received.
