The Disbanded Volunteer om the Prea. Douglass Intervi with the President, {From the New York Mercury. The late interview bet ween the Pi ot and the negro Lg mee beaded by Fred. Doug. lass and G. T. wing, is described by our correspondent in his most amusing vein: Naysnwat Horret, w genanepee, Febra- ary 5, 1866.—Edyturs of the Sunday Merkary: The onterrified African hes hed a nd tork with our Democratick feller citysin, nt Andy Johnson. Yest’day forenoon kwite a kel, gang of abel-bodid and asspiren dark hed. ded by Fred Dugallass and George we ling, who I bleve formally kep an eister shop in Broad street, New York, and was som wot disting wished for his brilee, culledon the Oheef Madgistrit to instruct him as to his dooties and obl hins to the blacks and tans of the South. Butler, the Bottleman, looked ina’ the White House about the same benr, and was ankshus for sn immedient intervew: but Mr. Jotinson heving perlitely rekwested bim to cork up and simmer down ontil the blacks had hed thar turn, he retired with the same reddy al ckrity that caracterised his movements st Fert Darlingand Fort Fisher. The delicashin which represent- edour dark complected brethren in all parts of the United States and the conkered Southern provinces, ehuck hands with the President kwite amicabble, and Citysin Dowling opened the palayver with a speech that did great grea credit to his ebony instinks, He remarkt, in substans, that Jack was as good as his mas_ ter, and rayther better: that wool had as much right togo to the polis xs bar, and thatef the niggeToes warn't fully admitted inter the te of freedom, thar never could be that corjal so. shil intercoarse atwixt the whites and biacks, witch the simildarity of thar tastes, dispersi- shins, inteliecks, and fizzical conformashin rendered nessassary for tharn muteshel com. fart, bappiness and con veenyense. He argged from Uoke and Blackstun, that culler was no ber to the rights of suverinty. «Look at England,” he remarkt, “from the airliest ages she hes reckognised the ekwality of the African, and ef the Black Prence hed a lived, she would have hed a culled man fora King.” He also reterd to his great aunsister. Black Dugaliass of Sootland, asa darky universally respeckted in his day, and to his majesty the King of Siam, asa fine Freneh and Latm skullard, though of the com- plexshin of the ace of clubs. Here the Presi- dent, with that grave humor for which he is remarkable, inkwired of the King ef Siam didn’t pay hummage to the White Ele 3 Frederick sed he bleved he did, and wot of it ? To which His Eggseliency replied that he would advise the culled race in America to do the same thing, er mebbe they monught feel the animal's tusks. This dry observashin took the champyon of Sambo’s —_— slightly aback, but he soon re- turned to the charge and pled the caws of his peeple for about fifteen minnits like a perfeck steamboat. The President then breefly sed he hed taken great art of Holy Moses to the Sons of Ham, but the ‘act was they wanted too much pork for thar shilling. He was thar fread hand giuy (at the same time putting on his ginv and offerin to shake hands with Dowling,) and was willin to lend them inter the land of Prommiss, but not right away, inter the land ot Performance. They must be content to wait awhile on Mount Pigsah and admire the prospeck, afore the: went the entire hog. I donno as the abuy was precisely the Pres- ident’s wurds, but I ken vouch for the accn- racy of the sentiments. In coarse the remarks didn’t meet the delecashins vew. They hed jist cum cocked and primed from Thad Stevens and his whippers in, and warat prepared to lissen to resin. To use the langwidge of a poplar poick, *Dugallass around him drew his cloke, Folded his arms and thus he spoke:” Ses he “Mister President, I shall appeal from you to the peeple.”” “Do so!” anserd Old Hickory the Seckind. “Do 80, my mulatter frend. 1 hey amazin con- fidense in the peepie.”’ Good for him, warnt it? And his confidense isent misplaced. I onderstand the Rads air perfeckly ravin at the manner in which thar pets was treeted, and you may expeck anuther broadside of rey— Sens tork in both Houses afore the week closes. Considerin the way theyre pitchin inter the President, I wunder he doosent remoove thar hangers-on from all the departments of the publick sarvis, and put bis troo frends in thar laces.
