Scort.—There ‘Was a crowd at Seaton Hall last night to hear and see the somewhat noted Cora L. V. Scott, “trance speaker,” better known, perhaps, as Mrs. CoraL. V.Hatch. The platform was oc- cupied by Cora, and by a tall gentleman with a heavy beard. Mrs. Scott, slight and graceful of figure, with the bluest of eyes, and blondest of ringlets, falling from a finely formed head, far down over her shoulders, sat impassively behind a stand. Child-like in appearance, and with that air of delicacy and refinement associated with such features, complexion, and color of eyes and bair—ciad, too, in a prim modest dress of gray, trimmed with black, and fitting close up in the throat—she looked the impersonation of innocence and purity. Gazing at her, it was ¢ ®eult to believe that it was her name that Was so bandied about, lately, in the New York divorce courts. She commenced with an invocation to the Almighty, marked by felicity of phrase and purity of enunciation, but which, hke the prayers of some other preachers, contained an amount of descriptive matter hardly needed for the instruction of the Omniscient Mind. The address that followed reminded one in its graceful, wordy fluency, of John B. Gough, but nothing specially new upon her topic was brought oul, if we may except her statement that Napoleon the first dictates to Napoleon the second what shall be the destinies of France, and that the spirit of Prince Albert is busied With endeavors to keep the peace between England and America. A better idea of the capabilities of the speaker was obtained when upon the close of her address she invited ques- tions upon spiritualism. A number were made by the audience, and answered by her with such crisp point as to show that her powers Were something above the mere fluency of recitation. The visible complacency shown by her at times in the discomfiture of a too confident questioner, militated sadly against the idea of spiritual agency, and there was nothing whatever in her jormances to indi- cate her a seer or anything more than a physi- cally gifted, flnent, quick-witted woman—a John B. Gough in petticoats, in short. ean Rosprry or tHe Tunis Empassapor.— When the Tunis Embassy were at the Conti- nental Hotel, in Philadelphia, some expert thief managed to enter one of the rooms of the Em- bassador, and stole a bag containing a large amount of foreign coins collected by the Em- ba:sador on his way to this country and while here. The coins were gold, silver and copper, but the thieves threw the ‘coppers into the street, and they were picked bk by milkmen. Subsequently, Mr. Phillip A. Voorhes, detec- tive of the hotel, arrested Louis Rosa, alias Raymond Cabot, a SS papers and it was in roof that Cabot sold the coin piece after piece. je is beld to await the arrival of the Chevalier CiAncr or Lanceny.—Saturday night, Om- cer Berkely noticed three men in front of Mr. Tule’s boarding house acting ina suspicious manner and xapt his eye on them. In alittle while he saw them start up the alley carrying a large trunk, and he pursued them, firing two shots at them. They dropped the trunk and Berkely falling over it they succeeded in mak- ing thelr escape. Subsequently Officers Coomes and Thompson arrested Bushrod Howard, John Evans and Daniel Lane on suspicion of being the parties, and they are held for a further rin The trunk proved to belong to Mr. $$$ LAYING IN PoRK.—On Saturday night, Wm. Tyler and Nace Bell were arrested by Rounds- man Harrison for stealing a hog m John Mills. The hog weighed abont 150 Ibs, and was driven by Tyler, who admitted the deed to a slaughter house, where it was killed. Tyler alleges that Bell was with him, but the latter proved an alibi before Justice Handy and was dismissed. Tyler was committed to jail for court. ee ee ee BALTIMORE AND OnI0 RAILROAD TELE- GRAPH.—Mr. Daniel E. Stipes, who has for some time been in charge of the telegraph of- fice at the depot, has been relieved by Mr. J. ¥. Morrison, lately in charge of the office at Frederick Junction.
