The ps was conducted by Capt. M. Smith to the Com- Mmandant’s quarters, where they were intro- duced to Comodore Radford, and were escort- ed by him on board of the double-turretied monitor Miantionomah, when, after inspecting this splendid vessel, they partook of the hospi- talities of Commodore Daniel Ammen. Sub- Sequently they visited the ordnance work- shops, and noted the manner in which the work is done there, and Jeft the Yard about 4 o'clock The steamer Swartara, Commander Jeffries, builtatthe Philadelphia yard, has had her machinery, which is said to be as fine as any ever turned out here, put in, and is now being fitted for sea. It is expected that she will be ordered to the Mediteranean, and will leave on | or before the Ist ot December. On the ordnance side of the Yard there are a large number of guns of various sizes, tured from the rebels during the rebellion, which are being arranged on the ground north of the new ordnance foundry, while at the ordnance museum, formerly used as the paint shop, there are many specimens of warfare, among them torpedoes of every description, the in- spection of which will well repay the visitor. ‘The rules as regards visitors in this portion of the Yard are strict, and before gaining admis- sion to the workshops visitors are obliged to obtain permission from the officers. This rule seems to apply also to the ground south of the main ordnance building, where the large relics are being placed—the watchman there com- pelling al) whose curiosity leats them to make acl n of the gums to leave. It may be per: 3 st and proper t> restrict in a mrasure visitors going into the workshops, but we cannot see why such rules should be ap- plied to a portion of the Yard no: fenced in. ——— CrNTER MARKET, To-Day.—Beef, best cuts, next, 15a2ve.; Salt Beef, 12aise.; Dried Mutton, chops, 25e. a35e.; Pork, fresh, 25¢.; cor hams, uncut, 34c.; slic ic.
