Belle, (president) Jewell, (secretary) Hyde, Magee, D niop, Marbury and Uragin The president laid be! of W. G. Shattuck for furniture for the scRools, which was passed. On motion of Mr. Hyde. $50, or so much thereof as is necessary, WSs Appropriated to aopply a deficiency for the payment of the bill. The bilisof W.C. Magee for expenses in- curred _. of W.H. STAR. enpey for money pald for certain werk done at the schools; were ordered to be | aid. On motion of Mr. H yde. Friday, the 7th in- siant, at 3 o'clock p.m, was designated as tbe time for the distribution of cards of merit at the West Georgetown schools, and the 2ith instant, same hour, at the Montgomery street 2ehovls. Upon tugeestion of Mr. Marbury. approved by the board, Messrs. Hyde and Magee were appointed by the chair a committee to make arrangemeuis for the ocotsion, with power to employ such assistants as they may require. Mr Dunlop presented the application of the genior class ot female primary, No. 2, (Miss jams, teacher.) for permission to use the fourth reader. Mr. Magee contending taat if the class is competent it should be transferred tothe gram- mar scbool, where there is plenty of room. and the transfer would afford room for the accom- modation of applicants for admission to the primary. By order of the Board, Mr. Hyde waz an- | thorized to bave a roof constructed over the south portico of the Moutgomery street school building. ‘The work to be given to the lowest of three bidders, who shall submit their est- mates to him. , The Board then adjourned. The public echools of Georgetown are six in number. A metber of the Board mates the low | estimate of 1.510 children of school age in the town, ef whom there are applications from a numbe: for two schools more. The school d issup- plied by an annual tax upon property of ten cents vpon each $i; the annual poil tax of | 31, and by a recent act of Congress, one fourth of all fines and forfeitures in certain eases within the District. The schools are lo- cated as follows. West Georgetown, Male Primary, No. 1, Miss M. A. Hanna, teacher: Female Primary, No. 2, Mrs. E. A. 1jam teacher. Montgomery street, Male Grammar, Miss Emma L.
