TH & INAUGURAL CereMonigs.—The general committee (consistirg of celegates from the Lincoin and Johnson Club aud the various State organizations) on the inaugural cere- monies and ball, held a meeting last night at the Union Lengue Rooms, with Mr. Lewis Clephane in ‘he chair. Mr. J. H. Piant, chairman of the finance com- Thittee, called upon the collectors to report | progres, and stated that he himself had col- | ircted $160, and would be able to raise four or five hundred. Several of the other collectors made reports going toshow but litle progress, which was zccounted for by the fact that they haa noi as yet properly entered upon the discharge of their duties. A question was raised whether the collectors had authority to ask contributions from those not residents of the District. The Chair remarked thatil was customary to depend alone upon the District for tue sam necessnry to defray the expenses arising from the inaugural ceremonies, but there conld ba no object o to the collectors calling upon whom they &aw proper. Mr. T. B. Brown thonght that two clerks in exch Department should be appointed collec- tors, and he felt confident that every clerk ex- cept the copperheads would subscribe at least a dolisr each. Dr. Bangs said that be had not the heart to 8k clerks to contribute, for their salaries would not afiord it. Mr. F remarked thathe worked in the N Yard, and those who got but about $500 or $600 would shame the clerks with jiberal contributions. The clerks conld not live on iaree salaries but the Navy Yard men coald cousmell ones. Men can do if they will, re- pr arked the speaker, and it was ao shame that th se who toil with thehammergiye more than those who work with the pen Mr. Piantsaid there was a great difference be- tween the clerks aud those who worked in the Wav urd. The Navy Yard men had theirown houres to live in, while the clerks were com- pelled to pay enormous rents. The Chair thought they would have to rely principally upon the citizens of the District tor the money ‘The subject washere dropped. A protracted discussion ensaed as to the ‘powers vested in the supervisory committee, it having been charged that this commit‘ee had token the responsibility to place certain parties Bpou several of the sub-committees without ut Of the general committee pervisory committee consists of five pen appointed at one of the former meet- t eneral committee, to make all the arrangements for the ball, &c— Mr J H. The Chair asked Mr. J. T. Clements if he b himself responsible for any of the debts oe! supervisory committer. Mr. Clements said that he did not, and as the chairman of that committee (Mr. Clephane) had come toa point, he wonld cnarge Mr. Cle- plane with having placed Mr. Job Angus upon & committee against the express wisf of the general committee, aiter that gentleman had been stricken olf tor employing a man who had torn down the American fiag, and was known to be s rebel. The chairman of that saper- visory committee (Mr. Clephane) had also given the work of printing the cards to Demp- sey & O'Toole, after baying stated to him that they were disloyal. Mr. Clephane, in reply to Mr. Clements, said that he did notexpect such a castigation from the gentleman over the way. Although Mr. Augus wus not on friendly terms with the speaker, be believed him to be a trne and loyal man; and as for placing Mr. Angus upon the commitiee, it was only done after the vote by which he was stricken off was reconsidered, and ithad been decided by the general co: mittee that he (Mr. A.) shonid be reinstate ‘The speaker admitted that h had said he un- derstood Dempsey & U'Toole were disloyal, but be had nothing to do with employing them, as itwas done by Mr. J. D. Defrees, without consulting with the speaker, and no one could doubt Mr. Deirees’ loyaity.
