The visiting party was composed of James Young, president, Joshua Lynch, Ed- ward S. Lamdin, Wm. McOlymont, Dr. Geo. ‘W. Wayson, Geo. Keyser, 8. F. Streeter, Wil- son G. Horner, Oliver M. Disney, Robert M. Proud, A. D. Ferguson, Andrew J. Bandel, Glen) of the first branch; Sam’! Duer, presi- ent, Dr. Andrew Schwartz, John G. Wilmot, James H. Marklana, Hugh D. Evans, John Barron, Valentine Foreman, Wm. S. Crowley, qclerk,) of the second branch. Several other gentlemen, among them David Ireland, one of the directors of the Baltimore and Ohio Failroad, and Major R. A. McAllister, accom- panied the visitors, the party numbering alio- gether twenty-six. The object of the visit was to he present at %n examination of the pe ils of the Columbia Anetitute tor the Deaf, Dumb and Blind, to ‘which they had been invited 4 the superin- tendent, Mr. E. M. Gallaudet—the city of Bal. timore being a patron of the Institute, annu- lly making an appropriation for the education of some of the pupils. The State of Maryland wlso annually makes an appropriation to this Institute. As scon as thesalutations were over the party Proceeded to the Institate, and on arriving they ‘were welcomed by Rey. Dr. Sunderland, one o¢ tbe directors, in a neat address, in which he Spoke of the patronage of Baltimore, and the i pexallty, of the Government towards the school. Mr. Streeter, of the First Branch of the Bal- timore Councils, responded, thanking the di- Fectors tor their cordial reception, and pleazing Bumeelf to do allin bis power to advance the ioterests of so valuable an instituuion.
