Naw York, June 10—Advices per steamer Cahawba, Jrom New Orleans, state that rein- jorcements from Brashenr city and other points, to the num ter of 6,000, reached Gen. Banks on the 40th and 3iet ult., and our troops then out- numbered the rebels four to one. The rebels are entirely hemmed in, and no succor can reach them. Their force is various- ly estimated at from 6,000 to 10,000. They are well supplied with corn meal, but have few other provisions, and their supply of ammu- nition is small. It was believed to be impos- sible for them to hold out long. The Stimers Court of Inquiry. New York, June i0th.—In the naval court ot inquiry to-day, in the case of Chief Engi- neer Stimers, ou charges preferred by Admiral Dupont, C. C. Fulton, .» ofthe Baltimore American, was the principal witness. He tes- tified that Mr. Stimers informed him that he visited ail the Menitors on the morning of the oth of April with thirty or forty mechanics, | and ail the necessary materials; at one p.m. Teported to Admiral Dupont that they were all am condition for immediate service; it Admi- ral Dupont told him (Stimers) he had deter- mined not to renew the fight; thaton this decis- icn becoming known on the yarious vyerselsit created great surprise among the junior offi- cers; that one of the executive officers told him (Stimers) that he felt personally disgraced by ihe tajlure to renew the §ght, and that he de- sired fo be relieved from the squadron as soon ossible; also heard Mr. Stimers says that he elieved Admiral Dupont would have renew- ed the fight if he had not been influenced by others; alse, that the attack on Sumter was not an earnest one, and that the Monitors were ea- pable, in his opinion, of renewing the attack; also, that in his opinion, if the Ericsson rafts had been used, the Monitors could have reach- ed the city of Charleston; he expressed disap- pointnent and chagrin at the unwillingness of the Admiral ond fleet authorities to examine the rafts and torpedoes, or to listen to him when he attempted to explain their use: he however never expressed confidence in the ability of the Monitors, without the aid of the ratts, to succeed in entering Charieston harbor; Mr. Stimers did not directly criticise the eon- dvct of the Admiral, but regarded others as in- iinencing him against his own betterjudgment; the conversation of Mr. Stumers with wimess Was always private, and in an undertone; he avoided conversation with others, and went into his stateroom to avoid being questioned.
