_ DAIL ¥ WORKER, NEN PUBLISH NEW LENIN VOLUME, Covers Building of Bolshevik Party By ALEXANDER TRACHT- ENBERG. English edition, Collected Works. Out of the treasure of Lenin’s literary heritage, International Pub- lishers have just brought out two books comprising Volume IV of the Collected Works, covering the period of 1900-1902, The volume is. en- titled The Iskra Period, the period of the. old Iskra (Spark) of which Lenin was a founder and leading spirit. The Iskra, which carried at its mast-head the famous prophetic saying of the Decembrists, “The spark will grow into a flame,” was the first revolutionary Marxist paper, which helped to train the cadre of revolutionsts, many of whom are today leaders of the Com- munist Party of the Sovet Union and of the Soviet Government. The Iskra Period contains all the writings of Lenin covering the form- ative period of the Bolshevik Party. All the burning political and organi- zational questions affecting the rev- olutionary movement at its very in- ception was dealt with by Lenin in his articles in the Iskra, in letters to Comrades, in articles for the Marxist magazine Zarya (Dawn), or in pamphlets published at the time. The two books just issued contain artftles dealing with -the foundation of the Iskra and the poli- cies of the paper as advocated by Lenin; articles dealing with prob- lems affecting the peasantry, and a special study of the agrarian ques- tion, as a polemic against the critics ot the Marxian attitude toward this problem. Lenin paid attention to the smallest problems, as long as they.affected the workers; here we find articles dealing with fines and mistreatment of workers in shops, or in police headquarters in the case Editor, Lenin’s of workers being arrested for hind drunkenness. Many articles are de- IN voted to the Liberals and their role i 1%. in Russia, to the student movement, | fg to the Zemstvos and other phases of | ' Russian social and economic life.
