Persian, Belovehistan, Ohe Tribune. st NDAY, ‘THE condition of the Irish landlords mig ht be a matter for commiseration was their character not so well known. The tenants throughout the island seem to have organized a universal strike against paying a higher rent for their farms than the Government valuation, and in some instances they refuseto pay even that: Evictionsare all but impossible, and although there are quite a number of soldiers and Constables in the country, there are not enough to form body-guards for all the obnoxious landlords, agents, bailiffs, caretakers, ete. The agitation is being pushed with vigor and determination, and the proceedings instituted by the Government against the leaders seem to have had only one effect—that of rendering the leaders, more popular. The landlord and Tory or- gans continue to urge coercive measures. The London Saturday Review, the mouth piece of the less stupid of the “Stupid Party,” lashes itself into a great rage over the fawlesness prevailing in Ireland, and says it is areproach to the Government, to England, and to Ireland. The London Times follows closely in the wake of the Review, and the Irish Tory papers contain articles which indicate that their editors are foam- ing at the mouth. In this connection, we would direct jthe attention of our Trish- American readers to the address of the Irish National Land League, printed in another page. It is a temperate, manly, well-con- sidered, and well-written document. It de- elares in emphatic language that the aim of the Land League is to accomplish a reform 1m the infamous land laws of Ireland through “reasonable, peaceful, and thoroughly legal means,” which will “offend in no degree against natural right, moral obligation, or intelligent human law.” We have no doubt that the citizens of Irish birth and blood in this city will make fitting resvonse to the League. Mr. Parnell, Mr. Bigzar, Mr. Dil- lon, and their comrades are doing gallant service for theircountrymen, and they should not fail to receive substantial aid and en- couragement from their kin at this side the sea. NOVEMBER 21, “1880 THis Dulcigno business has been one of the most interesting International affairs of all time. The announcement of its surren- der has always been followed by.a contra- diction; the negotiations with regard thereto were only announced to have been success- ful when the announcement was emphatical- ly denied; the Sultan has promised to cede it only to break his-promise; the demanas of. the Ambassadors have been just about being complied with when there was a sudden hitch somewhere; the combined fleets ob Europe were about to open fire on it when! there came word from the various Ministers to wait awhile; und even the cable fiend had the much-talked-pf town burned one night, but foliowed the statement with a flat dental a few hours afterwards. Now comes the same veracious party and says that “it is stated” that Count Onov, the Russian Am- bassador, said at a mecting of the Ambis- sadors of the other Powers at Con- stantinople- yesterday that-certain of the Powers had encouraged Turkey: to resist- ance, and that the naval demonstration came to an untimely end as a consequence. Mr. Goschen then moved and Count Corti, the Italian representative, seconded a -resolu- tion that the Porte be allowed to act as it pleased in all the matters pending. If this ends the business, it is well. Amon the arrivals in the City of] Brussels - from Livervool at New York yesterday was a Bombay merchant-prince rejoicing in tne name of Esoofally Hiptata, who brought WE SAY WE ARE. The Prince, himself, was waited on by several male servants all differing from each other in size, hight, and age. A! the servants are good musicians, and when they get through ministering to Hip- tata’s wants they minister to his amuse- ment. The Prince is also provided with a conjurer, a snakecharmer, and adancing woman, He tatks quite freely, and says he came to see the United States and its people, and many of the latter will doubtless be anxious to sce him and nis people. The Prince of Wales was anxious to do so, and when he visited Esoofally Hiptata the lat- ter made his wives dance the Nautch danee, whatever that is, for the amusement of his Royal Highness. Hiptata will come to Chi- cago. A FIRE which, owing to the stiff wind which prevailed at the time it broke out, threatened to be a “big one” resulted in the total destruction of Lord, Stoutenburgin & Co.'s wholesale drug-house, at Nos. 72 and 74 Wabash avenue, yesterday about 13 o'clock. The fire was caused by the carelesness of a female employé in spilling some. vitriol over a counter. It required the utmost exertion and skill on the part of the riremen to prevent its spreading to the neighvoring buildings. The brave boys, under the skillfut direction of Marshal Swenie, were equal to the task, however. The loss of the firm is estimated at $150,000; and the insurance is $130,000, ‘The loss on the building, which belongs o the Peck estate, is about $50,000, and the insurance about $30,000, The stocks of Boies, Fay & Conkey, wholesale grocers, and A. L. Singer, clothing manufacturer, who oceupied the building on either side, were damaged somewhat by water. In both cases the loss is fully covered by insurance. ——— Kerorts from New York, Boston, and St. + Louis indicate an activity in the real-estate markets of those cities during the past week to correspond with the activity in the bond stocks, and the money market xenerally. Capitalists are freely investing their money in improved and unimproved real estate in th se cities in 2 way which proves conclu- sively that business contidence is fully re- stored. Even Philadelpbia, whose reales- tate market has been In a lethargic state since the Centennial year. is beginning to wake up. In another part of Tue Trancuse are printed dispatches giving details as to the state of the market in the cities men- tioned, and in many others. Chicago was the first place struck by the real-estate boom. It has been more than kept up this week. ‘Tne Boston franseript, usually a well- informed and by no means “a sensational 1 journal, says that it has authority for saying j that at a recent meeting of railroad magnates York. attended by. among others, Vanderbilt, Jolin M. Forbes of the Burting- ton & Quincy, and Mr. Coolidge of the Ateh- ison, ‘Topeka & Santa Fé, a combination was effected by which the roads mentioned and the New York Central, the Lake Shore, and the Atlantic & Pacific Roads have pooled
