Tyrrell, however, hud baen detailed to somo other placo, and ho then turned tho caso ovor to McAuley. He stated that ho told Mc- Auley everything concerning tho ono, aud that ho thought he had the ropes all laid for the cap- 2 ture. As came out Inter in the trial, McAuley swore that ho know — nothing about tho checks which had — beon presented at Groon's Bani. He had heard of such a transaction, but did not know that T'yrrell had them. Mr, Park, boing sworn, stated the facta as giv- on above, adding bis own account of what was sald in the bauk during the presence of the for- gor, who paused bimuclf ay J. E. During this conversation the threa of them wore walking down tho ateps of the bank to the sidewalk, on reaching whieh ‘Vaylor walked quietly away, and was lost in the crowd. IL. 1, Murray, tellor of the bank, rolnted tho conversation held inside the bank between him- self, Mr. Goutd, Mr Park, and McAuley, Mr, Lalcott was thon sworn, and in his state- mont related the facts as nbove stated, bringing iu ax corroborative tostimony the eheckd which Dotectivo ‘t'yrreil had in bis posseasion. He enid that thore seumod to bo n perfect understanding botwoon himsolf and McAuley chat the lntter was to arrest the forgor on sight. Talcott insisted that MeAuloy should be sworn before malting his statement. MeAuioy was taen sworn, and stated that no knew nothing about tho chucks which ho afterwards found to bo in Detective Tyrroll's hands, Had ho known that, he would have arrosted his man on firet sight, or had Me, Park given his authority and olfered to prefer charge agalust tho man he would have dune so. City Attorney Jimicson, who was present dur- ing tho trial, thought that thero was no case agnitit tho detective. nd accordingly the charges were dismissed by tho Board. From evidence placed in the hands of tha police it appears that the forger who thus tried to rope in these Chicago banks is now in tho neighbor- hood of Dubuque, Iowa. At one of the banks in thot elty be lately presented check for & large umount of imoucy, purporting to bo drawn by Hi, E.
