YELLOWSTOND PARK, Jul, —If the wonders of Yellowstone Na tional park could be spread wide from New York City Francisco, and a railroad could be laid in the center of this vast tract of land leading from coast to coast, there would still 216 square miles of wonderland to pe distributed elsewhere. , The basis of this tement taken from the shortest route across the United Si which according to tabulations, me sures 3,170 miles. The total square miles of the Yellowston~ is 3,386, more than the total areas of the state Rhode Island and Delaware. Dany of the beauties of the Yel lowstone are seen over the Grand Loop road, 137 miles in length, but there are still many places of inter- est which lay back of the beaten trials and highways which fead through this vast wonderland. In the background of the many features of which the boasts, there are beautiful mountain ranges, many crater formatlor a lakes and streams of untold beauty that most any state in the Union would be gald to have placed among the outdoor attractions of their play- grounds, and Yellowstone has such an ample supply of these features that every state could be given a worthy natural setting without ap- parently harming the attractiveness of the Wyoming wonderland. « One one-hundred and _ twentieth part of the total population of the United States bas visited Yellow- stone National Park, accordingto an approximate figure recently taken from the tourist travel recorded, for since the first know entrant, John Colter, one million other Americans have visited the park. Surrounded by the atmosphere of the great open spaces, with none of the modern facilities to mar an otherwise perfect setting, a buffalo round-up with all the thrills which can be associated with the real thing, will be staged upon the pral- ries close by the Lamar river, Leavng behind civilization at the Canyon station, visitors going to the buffalo ranch will ride in the stage- coaches much in vogue during the late nineties.
