- » SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1924. t oere ~~ WARFARE AFTER EIGHT ARE SHOT rent of feeling and tension evident on every hand before the troops ar- rived. The appearance of the armed sol- diers had it's effect, however, as the masses of people broke and drifted away. In less than an hour all the streets were cleared. ‘WASHINGTON, Nov. 1. (United Press).—Federal health offices were ordered tonight to confer in Los Angeles to assist local authorities in combatting the pneumonic plague there, Acting Surgeon General White of the United States Public Health ser- vice, who issued the instructions, said reports to him indicated the malady to be one of the most dead- to medical flaming through the town. {y There was an ominous under cur- JOHN M. ES SENATOR WARREN bility of casting a vote in favor of that which will best insure for them the growth and prosperity of this community. It is not a political problem. Common sense and fair judgment will prompt citizens to do the only business-like thing for them. selves and their bor. Opponents of Senator Warren are attempting to mislead the people-as to the facts and endeavoring to minimize his efforts in behalf of this project for their own selfish political fortunes and regardless of the community good. Shall we allow them to fool us—to the injury of our home and business owners— to the detriment of our permanent growth and development? Keep in mind that it is only within the past two or three years that our Natrona county oil fields have been entirely opened up and thereby so increased the funds for reclamation purposes that our equities for the first time have ‘grown so strong as to overcome the former barrier of a Hoag acer high cost per a for our irrigation project. Keep in mind also that last winter for the first time a fact finding com- mittee reported to the president that no project in the country could be completed under $100 per acre, thereby our project at $130 to $140 per acre feasible when coupled with our strong equities arising from our enormous’ oil royalties to the government. Has Senator Warren been idle since these things came to pass? He has not. You know he has not. You know that the head of the reclamation service has been here; that he is an old Wyoming man—our first state engi- neer—a life-long friend of Senator Warren and a friend of our community, You know reclamation engineers are even now at work on a detailed report to submit to con; in December next; that despite the threats—the pleas Nebraska for all our weiter. Dr. Elwood Mead, the reclamation head, has set aside 150,000-acre feet of water for North Platte projects in Wyoming. But what of the future? How can we provide for the com, pletion of that which is begun, which means so much to us all? Can we do it with two Democratic senators or shall we return Senator Warren as the capable, the experienced, the loyal senator to represent us if President Coolidge is our next president. There is little doubt of the re-election of President Cool- idge. This will mean for another four years a Republican sec- retary of the interior and a Republican reclamation ‘commis. sioner. Senator Wharren’s re-election will definitely clinch for Wyoming, Natrona county and Casper a definite program for the completion of the Casper-Aleova irrigation project. With- out Senator Warren at his post and with a Republican admin- istration, what attention would they pay to a~green Demo. cratic senator from Wyoming? What attention would he com- mand from a Republican secretary of the interior or Republi. can reclamation commissioner? ‘Wyoming already has in the United States senate a Demo- cratic representative in Hon. John B. Kendrick to represent the state even if Mr. Davis might be elected. If;Senator War- ren is not returned however, who will speak for Wyoming and our project ‘in the senate to a Republican administration with hope of success? Not another Democratic senator, certainly. There is no logical reason why the people of Wyoming should not exercise common horse sense in the selection of its repre- sentatives at Washington. Surely we of Natrona county will not fail to do so by voting for Senator Warren and Congress. man Winter.
