This week, Sparky took the Chevrotet four- passenger coupe for a little spin, and folks, here's the straight dope.) Oh, boy. What power, She rounds even the big ones on the heavy grades. Power, and plenty of it, is the first feature of the new Chevrolet cars, fo impress one who is driving the little car for the first time. Last Tuesday found Sparky easing swiftly and quietly out of the salesroom of the Nolan Chevrolet company with his hands gripping the wheel of a brand new Chevrolet four-pas- senger coupe. No Fifth Chevie. Sparky. the litIte coupe a out, and pointed her nose toward the towering peaks of the Casper range. Up the first heavy grade just outside the city Mmits on the mountain toad, she flashed in high gear, without a shadow of hesita- tion or jerkines: It was not necessary to put the Chevie in inter- mediate until the long grade above Garden Creek falls was reached, where she fell back upon her second gear with a knowledge of work well done. On up the mountain went the little street hill for the decided to give thorough work- car. Now and then she rounded cars larger than herself struggling with the “straight up” pull, and threatening to give. up the ship within the next few feet. Let us consider the construction of the body of the particular model which was given such a thorough test by Sparky. Doors are wide and sturdily built. They open and lose noiselessly. In the entire af- ternoon of testing, Sparky failed to detect the slightest body noise, or disagreeable squeak which might reflect in any way upon the con- struction of ihe latest Chevrolet model. The driver has ample leg room and the interior affords com- fortable riding space for four people. The upholstering is of the highest quality, and the entire job is indeed a miniature of the coupe models of some of world’s highest priced cars. At handling easily in heavy traffic, the Chevie proved herself to be one of the leaders in the field. The little coupe throttled down easily to four or five miles per hour in high with out the slighest complaint from the motor. Her gears are easily shifted, and are now almost noiseless, a fault with which the earlier cars of the same make were cursed. That she is a steady puller under thoroughly adverse conditions was satisfactorily demonstrated when Sparky took her through the sandy bed of Casper Creek over a new trail, with every bit of ease that might be desired in a car of the Chevrolet's class. The four-passen- ger coupe and almost every other Chevrolet model is on display right now at the Nolan Chevrolet com- pany, and don’t think that “Jack"’ Nolan will not be delighted to have everyone in Casper just drop in and “Loo ‘em over.” “Next week Sparky will tell you all about his drive in every model of the Studebaker. CARS ARE FAVORED IN NEW ZEALAND A tabulation showing the number of automobiles of different makes that visited Muriwal, New Zealand, during a recent race meeting, as compiled by a newspaper of Auck- land, reveals that American cars just about dominate the field in that country. OWNER Weak valve springs, which have become weakened due to the loss of temper of the wire will also éause sluggish action, as they can mot hold the valve to its seat. Weak valve springs can be located when the engine is running by inserting @ screw driver between a pair of coils and giving it a slight twist so as to increase the tension of the spring. If the engine picks up in speed it is a sure sign that the spring is weak. The exhaust valve springs will give the most trouble, as they lose their temper, owing to the heat they are subjected to, and when they become weak they should be replaced with new ones. The Starting Motor Circuit of the Car * The starting motor circuit is from the battery to the starter switch, thence through the switch and to the starting motor, from which the current returns to the battery. The path of.current through the motor will of course depend upon the num- ber of field poles and the type of winding used. If the external circuit consists of two wires, one of these will conyey the current*through the switch to the motor and the other will form the return leai from the motor to the battery. In the single wire sys- tem the current passes through the wire in one direction and through the ground in the opposite direc- tion.
