Latest presentations appear to cling towards conservative lines, the Fedora and Alpine shapes occupy- ing the front positions among older men's hats, as contrasted with the “Handkerchiet In Pocket Is Okeh . NEW YORK, March 15.—Visions of the old days when mother used to ask: “Got your hanky, Willie?” are conjured by the early morning stunt of the missus cramming a handkerchief into that breast- pocket. Most men won’t wear ‘em that wi Lots of men affect those guadily colored kerchiefs for ser- vice in the upper left-hand pocket. But something in that pocket is better than nothing. An inch or more of the corner of a handker- chief is relieving to the eye of the beholder. Some men display a fancy handkerchief to harmonize with the color of suit worn—a tan silk one with brown suit, blue bordered one with a bjue suit, etc. ‘But for the chap who likes to be neat, but not guady, an ordinary handkerchief, provided it’s clean will fill the bill with nicety. - The cross-bar handkerchief, the kind with five or six threads running parallel to the border, is being worn now, with success. There is an art in. folding these display kerchiefs which is obscure to most mortals, but if they are folded so that they do “not bulge in tho pocket, while leaving two triangular corners pro- truding an inch or so, a certain sartorial elegance is attained with- ut subjection to the accusation of nity. ; Have Pretty Face NEW YORK March 15. — The uciest little black straw cloche town is surmounted in the middi f the front by a b’g shie’d shaped etal ornament in shades of gold, en and pink. Instead of a predomirfiance of floral effects as heretofore in this class of neckwear the designs run more to figures—conventional de- signs of block effects, cubist treat- ments and small geometrical motifs. These ties are not cut quite as flowing as in previous seasons and yet are ample tn both knot and ends. ‘The colors are bright—more or less youthful tendency of diamond shapes and dented in styles. In the more exclusive social circles, the brim is turned down in front and side, or all the ;way- around. The follower of outdoor sporting activi- ties will find much recourse in many of the new styles. Léss of t risque and more of the conservative lines feature the plan of the summer straw. Shades are meeting a happier extreme Along fewer ultra colorings. Most of the styles will be based on less radical blendings. x Light Sailor Straws. Always recognized as an institu- tion in summer headwear, the light sailor straw will ‘most Likely set the pace for this season's trend. Whites, Ught browns.and tans hit the high spots in shades. Rough straws and loose weaves of excetdingly light texture. the the’ 5 mixtures will also be seen, notwith- standing the fact that conservative dressers still outlaw this idea. : Old Standbys in Favor. Old standbys, both Leghorns and Panamas, will again grace the heads of older men and a few of the younger bloods. These, too, will pre- dominate in lightwéights, with many in the well-liked Optimo shapes, For the ultra-conservative men there are good selections in Bankoks to follow with the vogue of the season. While the topcoat 1s being worn, many sprightly young men and some of the older men will find the derby rendering a much ted aristocratic touch. Like many other trends in men’s fashions, the derby approaches simple lines with less and less of the odd-shaped creatur Spring’s coming is already employed in our present show- solid in foundation colors but the designing patterns are in bright reds, lows, greens, purples, laven- ders and some pastel shades. Knit Ties Are Liked. ties are again asserting ives in most elaborate pat- terns—some so profusely inter- be Casper Sunvay Cridune woven with color that it is almost. impossible to identify them as being of knitted weaves. These ties also lean much toward the brighter collars many pique patterns effects in very much involved mix- tures or bold bias stripings. Next to these come the grenadines following in pattern effect the same trend as noted in the knit ties. Crinkly crepes are another new fabric that wiil find much favor as most stunning patterns have been developed in this character of tie. In fact it is anticipated as the sea- son romps along into summer that the foulards and these crepes will pretty much dominate the vogue. Flat or cut silks and mogadors will always find adherents and there will be no scarcity of these fabrics for those that prefer them but in the main the man who knows his fashion guide will adopt the things we have emphasized above as the high lights of the season's neckwear styles. In shirts the outstanding de- Parture of the season is the collar- to-match shirt. These, of course, are for early spring, as when the hot Weather comes men will hardly bur- den themselves with laundered col- lars except for evening dress wear. Shirts in Solid Tones. Some of these shirts will also be seen in*solid tones, of which the new “powder blue” is considered to be the faddish thing. To this we add the lighter pastel tones of soft tan, orchid, coral, helio, pale gal and cream. These effects will appear even stronger in the soft collar attached shirts as the season advances intc the summer season and sport period Plain white, too, will begin to evi- dence itself about this tim: plain white irts will be self patetrn effects of madras corded stripes, jacquards and broadcoths. Even Color in Hosiery. Hosiery ts not to be the the color notes in a man this season.
