We live in a state abundantly blessed with rich resources and beautiful scenery, yet to a great extent Inck- ing in verdure. Let us plant trees, flowers, vines end shrubs in our public grounds and in our yards and gardens. We ‘owe it to future generations. We should leave it asa heritage to our children. We should plant them as & monument to ourselves. By so doing we shall mako our dwelling places and parks a delight to the eye. Closely allied to the purpose of Arbor day is the arousing of public sentiment that will discourage de- struction and tend to the safe- guarding of our forests, the pro- tection of our forests being essen- tial to our industrial and commer- cial future; to our strength as a nation and to our individual well- being. THEREFORE, I, Wiltem B. Ross, governor of the state of Wyo- ming, in pursuance of the law and by virtue of the autho in me vested, do hereby designate and proclaim Monday, the twenty-third day of April, A. D. 1923, ARBOR DAY, and urgently request that the people of this great state turn aside from their customary labors and daily routine on this day for the planting of trees, flowers and shrub- dery, and that such fitting cere- monies be held as shall pro- mote + in and enthusiasm ' ance. ‘urther request that the matter of our fo: shall receive a share of attention upon such occasion.
