x . SENTTO DEATH = / DETHLS CLEAR FRIDAY, APRIL 13, 1923. SINVER ON SCAFFOLD Clemency Appeals De- niedin Case of Gull Mo- hammed, Murderer. SAN QUENTIN, Cal., April 13— Sull Mohammed, known also as Ullah Mohammed, was hanged at the state prison here today for the murder of . tis business partner, Allle Akbar, in » Sonoma county. The trap was sprung at 10.17 a, m. and Mohammed was pronounced dead at 10:29 a. m. The case of Mohammed was espe- slal'y noteworthy because of the va- riety of legal appeals in his behalf} the latest, a petition to the United} States district court for a writ of| habeas corpus, being made only last aight. Other legal remedies invoked tn- cluded equity proceedings in which the superior court of San Francisco issued an injunction temporarily re- raining the warden of the penten- vary from carryng out the execution. The supreme court dissolved this, however, holding that the theory a man’s life was property, on which basis the injunction was issued, did not apply in the instancé of convicted criminals. Another remedy sought to invoke a8 a writ of coram nools (before us, sing @ common law proceeding | cale in Great Britan after all steps in the courts had failed. A number of appeals for clemency , for Mohammed were made by wom m’s clubs and others. EXECUTION OF HADLEY TODAY (Continued from Page One) Anna Johnson, wife of a Denver con- tractor. Closeups shown >t both Dempsey and Carpentier in thelr training quarters golng through ftrenuous workouts, as well as the lighters doing their road work. Most of the preliminary fights are also shown. The pictures of the main event are Uso excellent, showing both closeups of the fighters, where the _ terrific fighting of Dempsey can be plainly seen, and practically every blow land- td on the game little Frenchman can de detected, both in the long Cistance ind the closeup views.
