Bris postmaster Washington, Dee tow, fourth general, has reevived a from a Texas sherilf that the post- mistress of his towr Y shot off the hat of the leading citizen, who enter- ed the postoftice without taking off his bat, and had positively refused | to deliver mail to “niggers and greasers,”’ There was a complaint froman'th er from Texas town that a fend be: tween the postimaster there aud the mailearrier had resulted in the town going without mil for a week and the citizens “felt angry over the mat- ter.” The letter explained that te post master had sworn to shoot the car- rier and the latter had accepted the challenge. The consequence of this declaration of hostilities was that the next time the carrier reached the : office the postmaster shot at him | and he narrowly escaped. The carrier dropped behind. his cayme and returned the fire to the assistant complaint great alarm of the citizens who were whittling sticks outside the ofticeand diecussing crop conditiops. Much valuable ammunition was expended on both sides, but no harm wasdone beyond filling the postoftice walls full of 44 caliber holes. The carrier departed without delivering the let- ters and the village Solons went with- | out their mail. The next day the carrier appeared again and once more there was an exchange of leaden compliments, re- sulting in the cayuse getting a ball through his car. Again did the car- rier depart with the mail undelivered. The third day the carrier stayed away. The postmaster decided he could defer the shooting of the car- rier, but needed the mail at once, and sent messenger after it. The car- rier had a grudge against the mes- senger and, dropping behind the mail bags in his wagon, shot athim. He got as good as he sent, for the mes- senger “unlimbered” and sent the contents ofa naval revolver at the carrier. The carrier got a ball through his sombrero and the mes- senger shot the colt of a registered mare, The citizens protest that because of the warfare they have not received any mailfor a week. They suggest that the department remove the of- ficials or that they be given leave of absence while they learn to shoct straight enough to remove them- selves. An inspector with a reputa- tion as a quick shot has been sent to the scene. To Cure a Cold in One Day. Take Laxative Bromo Quinine Tablets. All druggists refund the it it faile to cure E.
