This morning at nine o'clock an interesting event took place in this city that never before ocoured here. It was a taking of the white veil by three young ladies in attendance at the Sisters of Mercy Academy. The impressive ceremonies took place in the chapel and were conducted by Father Conley of this city. The young ladies taking the sacred de- gree were the following: Kate T. Leonard, of Galveston, Texas, who will henceforth be known as Sister Mary Theresa; Mary Kelley of Dal las, Texas, whose name now is Sister Mary Zavier; and Mary Hourigan of of Fort Griffin, Texas, who takes the title Sister Mary DeSales.—Carthage Banner. Eufaula, Ala., Dec. 16.—Two sons of Bradley Johnson, ex-sheriff of Henry county, Robert and James, aged 18 and 20, got drunk on Thurs- day, and in cold blood butchered an older brother named Charles aged 27. The father when he went to his murdered son’s rescue, was made by the two younger sons to kneel on the floor and beg for mercy. The old mother entered the room and tried to seperate them and was knocked on the head by the sons and horribly punished. The brother in- law and another brother, Ben, also drunk, were then made te leave the house. When the murderers found their brother was dead one whistied and the other danced in his blood. The surrounding country is great- ly excited and the latest news is that lynching is almost certain.
