Others on the afternoon speaking program included Judge C. W. Buttz. Charles Egley, manager of the Farmers Union Livestock Commission company at St. Paul, told the conven- tion that the solution to problems which beset the farmer is not to be found in political action. “Your chances of getting anywhere! through political action are practically nil,” he declared, “but you have every; } power through economic organiza- tions.” Need ‘New Head on Soil’ “Some say we need a new head inj Washington,” he said. “I think we need a new head out here on the soil. To those who say we need & new head in Washington I say that’s) 2 what we got when we cleaned house four years ago, but nothing funda- mental has been done to improve our conditions.” “Tariffs did not supply the an-; swer,” he said, “nor did the money! It’s a questiox: of economics.” Minot Phone Rate Schedule Approved The North Dakota railroad board made permanent its new telephone rates placed in effect in the city of Minot July 1. The commission estimated the new rates will save subscribers of the Minot exchange, owned by the Nor- thern States Power company, a total of $11,326 annually, as compared with former rates. The commission announced its schedule of new rates for Minot last *June, and the new schedule was Placed into effect by the company. The present findings new schedule.
