AT THE anv ‘Texas Rangers’ Film Is Page From History| Action, drama, romance, comedy | and melody have been skillfully work- ed into a magnificent screen achieve- ment in King Vidor's historic picture, “The Texas Rangers,” which opened yesterday at the Paramount Theatre. Presented by a cast headed by Fred MacMurray and the wisecracking Jack Oakie, the film lifts a page from the history of the two-gun organiza- tion which made Texas safe tor pio- neers, and combines it with a love story unusual in its charm. Jean Parker, young star who cap- tured the movie public with her work in “Little Women” and “Sequoia,” holds the feminine lead role as the daughter of a commander of the Ranger unit which MacMurray and Oakie join. Though almost incident- al to the sweeping theme of the plot, her romance with MacMurray is pre- sented movingly and sincerely. _ The plot of “The Texas Rangers” revolves about the adventures of Mac- Murray and Oakie after they have joined the early Texas organization of peace officers and are thrown into opposition with their friend of form- er outlaw days, Nolan. yi “Igloo, constant companion of Ad- miral Byrd, was the only dog that ever traveled to both of the earth’s poles. + NOTICE FOR The American Legion it No. 65 of Regan, North Dakota offer for sale their Log Cabin located in Re- im, Size 24’x36’ by 8 ft. posts, $’x10’ and built on Kitchen ‘Ali bids must be in the hands of the secretary, A. The story of this wealthy English girl who renounced a life of social frivolities to become a war nurse and laid the groundwork for what subse- | quently became the Red Cross, is filled with absorbing drama, tragedy and romance. Miss Francis has the role of the immortal nurse who, single handed, fought hostile and prejudiced doctors and government officials, in order to weed out the filth, neglect and im- morality that honey-combed the hos- pitals of the last century both in Lon- don and at the war front. She gives up her beautiful home and her lover for humanity, peared in several pictures for First National, and who is one of the best known leading men of the London stage, plays the part of a war corre- spondent for the London “Times”, who exposed conditions in the hospi- tals in the war zone and aids Florence Nightingale in her battle for human- itarlan treatment of dying soldiers. Donald Woods plays the part of Miss Francis’ lover, whom she rejects to serve her country, but who later Joins the forces at the front, and dies on the battle-field in her arms.
