Walter Welford, the state hail in- , Burance department plans to collect penalty and interest on all delinquent / hail indemnity taxes for the years j 1934 and 1935, W. J. Austin, attorney { for the department, said Friday. Payment of delinquent hail indem- nity taxes for 1933 and prior years, however, will be accepted without pen- alty and interest, he stated. Austin explained that Chapter 275 of the 1935 seasion laws provided for the acceptance of payment of 1933 and prior hail taxes without penalty and interest providing payment was made by December 31, 1935. The acting governor’s proclamation lust January extended such time of payment to September 15, and the ‘lamation issued August 20, 1936, proc! recommends the extension of such une to February 1, 1937, he pointed out. “In view of the fact that this proc- lamation is not an executive order and does not presume to require that its terms be complied with and in view of the fact that it makes no provision for accepting the payment of 1934 and 1935 hail tax without penalty and in- terest,” Austin explained, “it is my opinion that it is the duty of your department and of the various county officers acting as collecting agents for your department to.collect penalty and interest upon all of the 1934 and 1935 hail indemnity taxes.” Dorothy — I’m sorry I had to keep you waiting.
