Picture “Hi, Nellie!” to the Capitol | ‘Theatre on Thursday. The screen lovers are Paul Muni and Glenda Farrell. Muni is the managing editor of a New York news- Paper and Glenda is his star woman zeporter whom he sentences to work on the lovelorh column because she hhas fallen down on a story. ‘This bitter pill turns love to hatred, but when the girl is relieved of her heart throbs work and the managing editor is ordered to take up her task by the publisher, hatred turns into de- moniacal glee. How Muni works out his bitter prob- Jem and love is rekindled under a flow of the most biting sarcasm and cutting repartee two young lovers ever indulged in, forms one of the most unusual of the “angles” in “Hi, Nellie!” The story deals with the fast and furious action in connection with the uncovering and printing of sensation- a! stories in the daily news columns, and brings many of newspaperdom's humorous sides to the fore. Muni and Miss Farrell are seen to- gether for the second time in “Hi, Nel- del” They appeared together in Am # Pugitive from a Chain Gang,’ qagt year. Others in the cast include Ned Sparks, Robert Barrat, Kathryn Ser- gava, Hobart Cavanaugh and Harold Huber, Mervyn LeRoy directed. In fact we believe that this Fox comedy ro- | Mance with music is one of the ablest of the season and thoroughly suited to Jimmy Dunn’s style. Also, we are jof the opinion that his new film sweetheart, Claire Trevor, also por- trays an interesting characterization. Jimmy, cast as a high pressure press agent, is so sold on himself that he neglects his girl friend. She hap- pens to be smarter than he believes her to be and as a result he gets more than one surprise. On more than one occasion she gives him pointers which help to build up his ego. When Jimmy. falls for his boss’ sweetheart, a dancer with the lead- ing night club, he starts something which he had not reckoned for. As @ result some of the big shots of gangland toss him around. This is enough to make the sourest individual in town how! with laughter. And when he sings “It’s The Irish In Me” one realizes that he reveals another talent heretofore hidden from screen audiences. The song was writ- ten by Sidney Clare while Jay Gor- ney wrote the music. This pair is responsible for some big hits and we believe that their efforts in “Jim- my And Sally” are among their best. ‘The supporting cast is composed of @ number of able troupers whose skillful efforts are worthy of men- tion: Harvey Stephens, Lya Lys, Jed Prouty, Gloria Roy, Alma Lloyd and flock of starlings out of the Capitol!
